A female figure appears alone within a domestic space. Her action and inaction frozen, isolated, repeated. Her surroundings empty and fill of contents. She appears at times as one woman, at others as another; naked, distant, faceless.

EMPTY explores notions of the feminine self. Boundaries of inner and outer space reduce, expand and contract. Within this movement, some thing is glimpsed. A woman? A soul?

Presented as a slide projection, EMPTY takes the form of a dialogue between model and maker, viewer and author, composition and construction. The work continues Callaghan’s fascination with isolating and manipulating pictorial layers in complex, elegant and evocative arrangements.
