TEL AVIV.- The Tel Aviv Museum of Art's new exhibition marks a significant moment in an extensive acquisition of works by Israeli artists for the permanent collection of Tel Aviv Museum of Art.

The Israeli art collection is an accumulation of works assembled from the moment the Museum was founded to the present, and their varying exhibition over the years reflects the different perceptions of them. The collection’s historical scope depicts a wide view of an archival and conservation project, both symbolic and real.

In 2021, the Rappaport Foundation decided to focus its support, usually allocated to prizes for artists, towards the acquisition of works for the Israeli art collection. Following this exceptionally generous move, 58 works by Israeli artists were added to the collection.

The selection of works featured in the gallery might be termed a decentralized exhibition of a multi-generational, multi-vocal harvest, which summons an acquaintance with the work of artists as distinct individuals. The voices of the artists who reveal a fraction of their world are presented in their own words in the labels alongside the works.

A further viewpoint seeks to bind the works together into “skeins” of contents. A skein is a form of compressing, layering and coiling yarn together. A body that maintains branched relationships between its limbs is held in constant tension between the tangle and its loosening, awakening the constant passion to find the end of the thread with which to unravel it. Three skeins are featured in this exhibition: Bodily Gesture, Layered Abstract and East Moon.

Participating artists: Etti Abergel, Hadeel Abu Johar, Karim Abu Shakra, Lea Avital, Sagie Azoulay, Yael Burstein, Roy Cohen, Yasmin Davis, Ruti de Vries, Aniam Leah Dery, Pinhas Ezra, Ohad Fishof & Noa Zuk, Mark Glezin, Ido Gordon, Majdi Halabi, Omer Halperin, Harel Nir, Michal Heiman, Israel Kabala, Merav Kamel & Halil Balabin, Gabriella Klein, Gabi Kricheli, Abraham Kritzman, Harel Luz, Assi Meshullam, Uriel Miron, Efrat Natan, Galia Hili Pasternak, Eli Petel, Avner Pinchover, Shimon Pinto, Tchelet Ram, Elham Rokni, Elena Rotenberg, Naama Roth, Avi Sabah, Sala-Manca Group, Ester Schneider, Malachi Sgan-Cohen, Nardeen Srouji, Roni Taharlev, Igael Tumarkin, Izabella Volovnik, Yoav Weinfeld.
