Freeman's appoints two new fine art specialists

PHILADELPHIA, PA.- Freeman’s announced the addition of two new specialists to its Fine Art department, effective immediately. The appointment of Adam Veil—Vice President of Business Development and Specialist in Fine Art—and Lauren Colavita—Associate Specialist in Fine Art—at the onset of a robust fall/winter auction season marks Freeman’s ongoing commitment to growing its in-house expertise.

Freeman’s Fine Art department is continually building on its own successes; in February 2021, Freeman’s best-ever Fine Art auction realized a remarkable $6.4M in a mere 64 lots, and its upcoming fall/winter 2021 auctions have already garnered significant pre-sale interest from international buyers. Freeman’s team of specialists have deep knowledge of both historical trends and current market directions, leading to consistently excellent results for clients, and Freeman’s continues to invest in that expertise through the appointment of Veil and Colavita.

Says Freeman’s Chairman Alasdair Nichol, “Freeman’s is delighted to be expanding our already exceptional Fine Art department with the addition of two new members of the team, Adam Veil and Lauren Colavita, each bringing with them their own unique set of talents. After our most successful year yet, we are pleased to be able to offer our clients an even greater depth of expertise and responsiveness as we continue to focus on increasingly noteworthy and valuable consignments. We look forward to being of service to you.”

ADAM VEIL

Adam Veil serves as a Fine Art specialist and Vice President of business development at Freeman’s. Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Adam earned a BA and MA in Art History from Penn State University and pursued doctoral studies at Indiana University-Bloomington. His area of specialization is pre-WWII American Art, although he has lectured and published on topics ranging from Mexican landscape painting and Old Master printmaking to art market economics.

Prior to joining Freeman’s, Adam was Head of Fine Art at a Washington, D.C.–area auction house, and Executive Director of the Santa Fe Art Auction, where he oversaw market-setting auctions of classical and contemporary Western, Southwestern, and California art. He has also held positions in provenance research, art fair operations, and as editor and producer of The Conversation, a popular Los Angeles–based contemporary art podcast. Concurrent with his role at Freeman’s, Adam is a professor at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, where he teaches courses in Renaissance, Modern, and American art history.

LAUREN COLAVITA

Lauren Colavita joins Freeman's Fine Art Department as an Associate Specialist in Modern and Contemporary Art. Lauren attended the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where she was awarded a joint degree in Ancient History and the History of Art. She went on to complete her Masters degree in Museum Studies at the University of Edinburgh.

Lauren comes to us from Freeman's sister auction house in Edinburgh, Lyon & Turnbull, where she was a Junior Specialist in the Paintings Department. She also has past work experience with international auction houses in both New York and London, the National Galleries of Scotland, and the world-renowned Modern and Contemporary Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice.
