Thought-provoking installation unveiled at City Hall, Jersey City

The 31st Annual Jersey City Art and Studio tour is taking place September 30-October 3. Age of Empathy will remain up through October. Ms. Rudin hopes that this exhibit moves people in the community to become involved and create more changemakers during this unprecedented period in our history.

NEW YORK, NY.- Ms. Rudin’s Age of Empathy exhibit seeks to shed light on the hardships we have faced in the past year, as well as the compassion that we have shown for one another. As we steer towards a path of inclusion and equality, Age of Empathy has created a lively local event with the following organizations, engendering a more profound sense of community and empathy through the artwork of Ms. Rudin.

The following New Jersey charities were in attendance, offering information and opportunities to engage those in attendance: York Street, Hudson Pride, Women’s Rights Center, and Woman Rising. Each organization had a spokesperson present to promote discussion and support people with the goal of increasing civic engagement in the community. Ms. Rudin finds it crucial to move people towards action with her art.

“Our recent struggles have called for a realignment of principles. It has forced us to take inventory of our lives and reset our moral compasses. Empathy must become our new true north. By tackling topics that touch most of our lives – social justice, feminism, racial equality, climate change, and religious intolerance, to name a few – it becomes easier to envisage a true Age of Empathy. Let this series act as a model for how empathy can shift one’s critical awareness and spur people to take action in regards to the issues that remain at the forefront of the American conscience,” said Ms. Rudin. “In this way, perhaps we can learn to see one another with more compassion.”

The evening provided the community with an opportunity to view some of Ms. Rudin’s thought-provoking artwork while engaging in meaningful conversations with people and organizations in the community. The installation allows people to have an open dialogue with others about empathy in times of hardship. The installation delivers a message that City Hall supports and believes would resonate with the Jersey City community.

“We’re honored and excited to have Alex Rudin’s exhibit in City Hall this month as her powerful illustrations of inclusion and community will be admired by many. A special thank you to Ms. Rudin for your work, not only as an artist but also as a motivator promoting inclusivity for our entire community,” said Mayor Steven Fulop, City of Jersey City.
