DALLAS, TX.- A remarkable $4.99 thrift store find is among the highlights of Heritage Auctions’ October 28 Tiffany, Lalique & Art Glass: Including Art Nouveau & Art Deco auction, gracing the cover of the catalogue.

Of the 424 lots featured in the auction, the Rare Loetz Argus Glass Vase in Shape by Koloman Moser (estimate: $10,000-15,000) was selected to grace the cover of the auction catalog.

“The cover of the catalog for our upcoming Tiffany, Lalique & Art Glass auction was a no-brainer,” said Samantha Robinson, Consignment Director of Decorative Arts and Design.

“Designed by Kolomon Moser, a participant in the Vienna Session movement and co-founder of the Wiener Werkstätte, the Loetz Argus glass vase is one of the finest examples of this rare and important model to come to market. It does so following its unlikely discovery in a thrift store in the Pacific Northwest by a shopper with an exceptionally discerning eye. On October 28, it will cross the auction block and embark on the next chapter of its extraordinary story.”

The Loetz Argus glass vase, which features a decoration of metallic ‘oil spots’ and silvery blue threads atop a rich chestnut ground executed in Moser’s iconic shape with three gold, globular feet, demonstrates the artistic and technical prowess of the firm. It is joined by more than two dozen lots of Bohemian glass from Loetz and its contemporaries in the region, including Moser, Harrach, Kralik and Rindskopf.

“Our French cameo glass may be the strongest selection we have ever offered, headed by several early examples of Émile Gallé’s Art Nouveau virtuosity and an immensely rare ‘Lake Como’ landscape vase of museum quality,” Heritage Auctions Senior Vice President of Special Collections Nick Dawes said. “Lovers of modern Daum will savor the artistic ‘pate-de-verre’ selection.”

The auction’s selection of Continental glass also includes French masterworks, including:

• A Rare & Monumental Gallé Cameo Glass Le Lac de Côme Vase, circa 1925 (estimate: $15,000-20,000)

• A Tall Gallé Marquetry and Wheel-Carved Glass Crocus Vase, circa 1900 (estimate: $10,000-15,000)

• A Fine Daum Acid-Etched and Enameled Glass Blackbird Vase, circa 1900 (estimate: $3,000-5,000)

In addition to Continental masterworks in glass, the auction also boasts bronze sculptures and ceramic objects of France and Central Europe that likewise epitomize the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements of the early 20th century.

Included among the highlights of Continental sculpture and decorative arts are:

• An Edgar Brandt Bronze and Glass La Tentation Floor Lamp, circa 1925 (estimate: $25,000-35,000)

• A Raoul François Larche Gilt Bronze Loïe Fuller Table Lamp, circa 1900 (estimate: $8,000-12,000)

• A Rare & Massive Zsolnay Eosin Glazed Ceramic Boar Hunting Scene Floor Vase, circa 1900 (estimate: $5,000-7,000)

• A Clément Massier Iridescent Glazed Homme Enlevé par Morphée Vase by James Vibert, circa 1900 (estimate: $3,000-5,000)
