NEW YORK.- George Braziller, Inc. Publishers have just published Get Real: Real Time+Art+Theory+Practice+History, a Book and DVD, edited by Morten Sondergaard. This anthology presents real time as a transdisciplinary art form that is still in contact with traditional art forms by examining real time in theory, practice and history. Accompanying The text are several images of art installations as well as a DVD containing 14 real time art pieces.
The subject of Real time and art is multifaceted and complex. It is not just another case of a new media entering art, but a re-iteration of one of the oldest aesthetic questions: What is the relation between art and reality?
Real Time art is art that is produced and distributed to the spectator live and has the real time as a central idea. It’s art that reaches the spectator in the same moment it is produced.
Real time directs and molds media art and therefore is a large subject of media art. GET REAL is based on a vast array of questions and discourses that are vital in understanding real time and it’s current role in art.
Art historians, art curators, artists and physicists from around the globe come together in this anthology to define their perceptions of real time art and in turn produce a kaleidoscopic play of ideas and art forms.
Morten Sondergaard is currently the curator and associate director of The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Roskilde, Denmark. He curated the exhibit “Get Real,” which is to debut April 14th at MOCA and then travel throughout Scandinavia.
