The Acceptance World Opens in London

LONDON, ENGLAND.- Laura Bartlett Gallery presents The Acceptance World, a group exhibition of four young international artists showing new work relating to the modern landscape.

Michael K. Mills, a New York based photographer, is a founding editor of the online magazine, Drunken Boat. His photographs of interiors and urban structures are desolate and beautiful at once. Exhibiting for the first time in Europe, Mills presents photographs from his Elegy series.

Yuken Teruya is currently showing in ‘Greater New York 2005’ at PS1. His paper constructions of trees cut from paper shopping bags are virtuosic—the New York Times calls them ‘nothing short of miraculous.’ An Aldrich award recipient, he is represented by the Josee Bienvenue Gallery in New York.

Dwayne Moser lives in Los Angeles where he teaches screenwriting at Cal Arts. He is showing two large paintings of the sites of notorious Hollywood crimes: the road where Hugh Grant was arrested and the intersection where Winona Ryder was caught shoplifting. Based on Moser’s own photographs, the Warner Studio’s production department has produced these backdrop paintings exactly as if they were prepared for a film. Moser turns the site of an off-screen event in a film star’s life into a backdrop—suggesting the very public nature of their private lives.

Raul Ortega Ayala is a London based artist from Mexico whose solo debut ‘The Bureaucratic Sonata’ opens this month at Arts Depot. Here, using Letraset animals and trees he creates formal landscapes that are graphic and incongruous.

The Acceptance World is curated by David Coggins, an artist and writer from New York. He is a Contributing Editor to the magazine Modern Painters and has exhibited his work at Artists’ Space and the Bronx Museum of Art.
