Denver Art Museum Imposes Moratorium |
DENVER, COLORADO.- The Denver Art Museum has imposed a moratorium on all acquisitions and loans until the opening of the addition. This will allow the museum to focus its time and resources on its preparation for the opening. Museum director Lewis Sharp stated, "This is not business as usual. We have probably the most important opportunity for the museum that it has ever had, and our successfully doing this building and seeing it realized needs to be our priority." According to Sharp there will be exceptions. He stated, "The Louvre will call me and say that they want to lend the ’Mona Lisa’ to us for a year, so you say, well, we have this moratorium, but because of the ’Mona Lisa’ and the relationship with the Louvre, we’ll do it." He further stated, "Even myself. I reach a point where I can’t go to another function at night and still stay focused on this building project. So, it’s a matter of all us disciplining ourselves and recognizing what the main thing is, and the main thing is the building."
