CINCINNATI, OHIO.- The Cincinnati Art Museum presents Hanten & Happi: Traditional Japanese Work Coats from the Sumi Collection, on view through Sept. 11, 2005. Learn about Japanese life and culture through beautifully decorated working class garments. The exhibition features highly decorated, sashiko-stitched hanten, or fireman coats, painted with mythological figures and animals and happi, or everyday work coats, dyed in indigo and decorated with geometric designs and calligraphic characters that reflect the wearers occupation, trade or village. This exhibition is organized by the Kairos Cultural Agency, Kyoto, Japan, and presented by Macy's.
