Roland Auctions announces Private Collector's Auction and Winter Wonderland Auction

GLEN COVE, NY.- Following their highly successful New Year’s Day auction, Roland Auctions NY in Glen Cove, NY will now continue the celebration by presenting two days of auctions with their Private Collector Sale on Friday, January 28th at 10am, featuring over 300 Antique through Contemporary Frames, along with Fine Art, Furniture and Rugs, all from the collection of a prominent Manhattan art dealer, with no reserves.

The very next day, Roland will host their Winter Wonderland Auction on Saturday, January 29th at 10am, featuring a large selection of fresh-to-market lots of Fine Art, Furniture, Antiques, Decorative Arts and Collectibles, all gathered from multiple estates in the tri-state area, including the Upper East Side estate of a prominent Interior Decorator and the estate of a well-respected New York/Florida collector of English and American antiques and Asian porcelain. Previews for the Winter Wonderland sale will take place on Thursday, January 27th 10am - 6pm and Friday, January 28th, 10am - 6pm.

The various paintings and antique frames being offered on Friday, January 28th will include a William Merritt Chase (American, 1849-1916) "Portrait, After Velásquez" oil on cradled panel. Exhibited: New York, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Loan Exhibition of Copies, 1883 - 1884. Provenance: Christie's, New York "Fine American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture (Property from the Butler Institute of American Art Sold to Benefit the Acquisitions Fund)" sale, September 12, 2007, lot 44. [Art: 11 1/2" H x 9 1/4" W; Frame: 17 1/2" H x 20 1/4" W]. Estimated value $10-15,000, a V. Dahmm, Young Girl w/Doll, Late 19th-early 20th century European oil on canvas of a young girl with a doll, signed indistinctly. [Art: 47 1/2" H x 35 3/4" W; Frame: 56" H x 45" W]. Estimated value $ 6-9,000, a Louis Ritman (American, 1889-1963). Girl at Window, Oil on canvas painting of a girl at a bay window, signed lower right "L. Ritman". Not framed. [31" H x 36 1/4" W]. Estimated value $4-6,000 and a James Fairman (Scottish-American, 1826-1904, Bass Rocks - Oil Painting, Large oil on canvas painting of Bass Rocks (golf course), Gloucester, Mass., signed "James Fairman". [Art: 31 3/4" H x 44 3/4" W; Frame: 50" H x 63" W]. Estimated value $5-7,000.

More in the art arena are a Ralph A. Blakelock (American, 1847-1919), Moonlit Ocean Scene, Oil on canvas painting titled "Moonlit Solitude", signed "Ralph A. Blakelock". [Art: 24 1/2" H x 32 1/2" W; Frame: 16" H x 24" W]. Estimated value $3-5,000, a Venetian Scene - Large gilt-framed oil on canvas painting of a Venetian scene, not signed. Christie's label verso. [Art: 17 5/8" H x 36" W; Frame: 43 1/4" H x 52" W]. Estimated value $3-5,000.




Antique frames being offered include a large Ornate Figural Carved Wood Frame, having carved heads. [Outside: 44 ¾” H x 54 ½” W; Rabbet: 29 ¾” H x 33 ¾” W]. Estimated value $1000-1500, a large heavily pierced carved frame. Large antique gilt pierced carved frame. [Outside: 40” H x 53 5/8” W; Rabbet: 25 ½” H x 39 ¼” W]. Estimated value $1000 – 1500, a large Gilt Leaf Carved Frame. Large gilt frame with leaf carvings, with plexiglass. [Outside: 49 ½” H x 53 5/8” W; Rabbet: 39 ¼” H x 43 ¾” W]. Estimated value $1000 – 1500, a Mahogany & Gilt Wood Frame. Outside: 41” H x 47” W; Rabbet: 30” H x 36 3/8” W]. Estimated value $1000 – 1500 and an Eli Wilner labeled Gilt Carved Frame.[Outside: 35 ½” H x 41 ½”W; Rabbet: 25 ¼” H x 30 ¼” W]. Estimated value $800-1000.

Highlights of the Winter Wonderland Auction on January 29th will include a vast selection of Fine Art such as the Godaert Kamper (Dutch, 1614-1679), Portrait of Lady, 17th century oil on canvas portrait of a lady, in an oval giltwood frame. Signature not found. Letter from Professor Justus Muller Hofstede (German, 1929-2015) a professor at the Institute of Art History at the University of Bonn for most of his life and an expert in Flemish and Dutch painting of this period, opined that this portrait was painted by the hand of Godaert Kemper (see photo of Professor Hoftede's original letter). [Sight: 23" H x 18 3/4" W; Frame: 33" H x 26 1/2" W]. Estimate $1,800 - $2,200, a Roger Muhl: Abstract Landscape – Gilt framed painting titled "Arbres", signed, bearing label from Findlay Galleries. [Art: 34" H x 32" W; Frame: 40" H x 38" W]. Estimate $4,000 - $6,000 and a James M. Flagg (American, 1877-1960: The Fight, Grisaille oil on canvas painting of a fight scene among circus folk, in a gilt frame, signed lower right "James Montgomery Flagg". Flagg was an artist, comics artist and illustrator. He worked in media ranging from fine art painting to cartooning, but is best remembered for his political posters. [Art: 27" H x 48" W; Frame: 32" H x 52 1/2" W]. Estimate $2,500 - $3,500.

Antique furniture pieces being offered include a Charles X Maple & Mahogany Library Table, French Charles X bird's-eye maple and mahogany library table, circa 1825, the rectangular cross-banded top on double scroll supports on plinths at each end joined by a stretcher. [29" H x 72 3/4" W x 33 3/4" D]. Estimate $3,000 - $5,000, a Late George III Mahogany Cylinder Desk, banded and inlaid, with rolling tambour top, the interior with drawers and compartments above two drawers and retractable writing pad, raised on casters. [41" H x 39 3/4" W x 28" D]. Estimate $2,000 - $3,000 and two Art Deco Oak Oval Table Vitrines, Vienna. [29 3/4" H x 46 1/2" W x 27 3/4" D]. Estimate $2,000 - $3,000.

Decorative items will be in abundance at Roland Auctions, offering an A. Cain: Lion & Bird of Prey – Sculpture, A bronze sculpture of a lion and a slain bird of prey, signed, with foundry mark "Susse F[rer]es. Ed. Paris". [25" H x 29" W x 12" D]. Estimate $4,500 - $6,500, a 19th C. French Paris Porcelain Tureen, French gilt decorated tureen with Neoclassical motifs to lid and body, unmarked with incised "H" to base. [10" H x 12" Diam.]. Estimate $1,000 - $1,500, an After R. Bonheur: Walking Bull - Bronze Sculpture, signed "Bonheur" to base, after Rosa Bonheur (French, 1822-1899). [15" H x 24" W x 8 1/2" D]. Estimate $1,000 - $1,500, a Pair of19th C. Empire Bronze Urns, gilt and patinated urns of campana form with grape leaf and classical motifs, on stepped plinth bases. [10 1/2" H x 4 1/2" Diam.]. Estimate $700 - $900, a signed Houdon: Bust of Athena - Bronze Sculpture, Bronze bust of Athena (Diana), after Jean-Antoine Houdon (French, 1741-1828), [28 1/2" H x 16 1/4" Diam.]. Estimate $800 - $1,200 and an unusual Bronze Art Nouveau Box, with key, having a green velvet interior [7 1/2" H x 5" W x 5" D]. Estimate $150 - $250.
