SAN JOSE, CA.- The San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles Board of Directors today announced its unanimous decision to appoint Camille Ann Brewer as the new Director of the Museum. Ms. Brewer will shape the Museum’s vision and strategic direction, and guide the Museum’s overall operations, including exhibitions and programs, collections, donor relations and community engagement.

Ms. Brewer brings extensive museum and arts-sector experience to the position, having served as the Curator of Contemporary Art for the George Washington University Museum and the Textile Museum in Washington, D.C., and Executive Director for the Black Metropolis Research Consortium at the University of Chicago, among her long list of accomplishments. She also owned and operated her own business, CAB Fine Art Ltd., where she provided curatorial and consulting services for a host of academic, public and private sector clients. Additionally, Ms. Brewer has served on grant panels for the National Endowment for the Arts and the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and is an accomplished speaker and author.

“We are thrilled that we were able to attract someone of Camille’s caliber to direct the Museum,” said Board Co-Chair Melissa Leventon. “Her depth of collections experience, textile knowledge, and fundraising success positions the Museum well for the future.” Board Co-Chair Tien Chiu added, “We considered several highly qualified candidates for the Director position. Camille rose to the top with her strong vision for the future of the Museum and how to get us there.”

“I am excited to begin this opportunity with the museum in my home state of California. My professional and personal passion resides in the textile arts and I am thrilled to work with the museum’s board of directors and staff to build a thriving museum in the Bay Area,” said Ms. Brewer.

Ms. Brewer holds a Master of Library and Information Science from Valdosta State University, Valdosta, Georgia; a Master of Fine Art in textile design from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan; and a Bachelor of Fine Art with distinction from California College of the Arts, San Francisco, California.

Ms. Brewer was selected following a national executive search process led by Arts Consulting Group (ACG).
