GLEN COVE, NY.- Roland Auctions NY in Glen Cove, NY will present their two-part Multiple Estates auction on Friday, May 20th at 10am and Saturday, May 21st at 10am, featuring a with a fine selection of superb Chinese and Asian art, furniture and decorations, including many lots from the Estate of Herbert and Florence Irving, world-renowned collectors of all things Asian, and founders of the Asian Wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Previews will be held on Thursday, May 19th & Friday, May 20th, 10am - 6pm.

The two-part auction will focus largely on Asian art and decorative items, antiquities and contemporary art, including Dale Chihuly glass, Peking rugs and contemporary furnishings, while also featuring a selection of high-end jewelry.

Along with many items from the extensive collection from the Estate of Herbert and Florence Irving, Roland is also offering a selection from the collection of well-known Palm Beach socialite June Hirsch Jones, a former upper East side gallery owner who sold high-end post-war art, Chinese art, and antiquities. In the early 1960's she even “dated” actor Rock Hudson for a time, traveling with him through southern France and Italy when he needed to be seen with an attractive woman for the paparazzi.

Highly-anticipated items from the Estate of Herbert and Florence Irving will include a pair of Kang Hsi period Chinese porcelain famille decorated chargers. Comes with original invoice from Royal Phoenix, 12 E. 86th St., NYC. [16 1/2" Diam.], Estimate $6-9000, a Chinese Porcelain altar set - 3 Pcs. Attributed to the Kuang Hsi period, porcelain altar set, decorated with ping dragons seeking pearls on yellow ground. Incense burner with foo dog finial cover. Comes with appraisal by 1982 Alexander Wallen, NYC. [Vases:12" H, Burner: 13" H]. Rim flake, Estimate $4-6,000, a Chinese Ming Vase, Ca. 1400, Chinese double gourd form Ming Dynasty vase, circa 1400, bearing a 1960s Rare Arts label. Provenance: From the Krassner Collection. [6 1/4" H x 3 3/4" Diam.]. Firing flaws. Estimate $2-4,000, and a Chinese Cinnabar Lacquered Bridal Box, Qian Long Period Chinese carved bridal box in peach shape, circa 1736-1795. Also taking the spotlight will be a Dale Chihuly 2003 hand-blown glass sculpture titled "Radiant Persian Pair", Portland Press, signed by the artist. Comes with a Portland Press recognition document. Certification Number 1286 pp2p.03. [Sculpture: 8" H x 11" W x 10" D]. Estimate $5-7000 and a Sam Francis: Untitled - Acrylic on Paper, abstract acrylic painting on rag paper, 1979, in shades of deep blue. Not signed. Literature: Sam Francis catalog no. SF-79-166, published by the Institute of Experimental Printmaking, San Francisco, 1979, in collaboration with Garner Tullis. Provenance: Purchased from Andre Emmerich Gallery in 1980. Comes with original bill of sale. Sam Francis (American, 1923 - 1994) occupies a prominent position in post-war American painting. Although associated with the Abstract Expressionist movement and Clement Greenberg's Post-Painterly Abstraction, unlike many American painters of he time he had direct and prolonged exposure to French painting and to Japanese art which had an individual impact on his work. Complete set for twelve with nine pieces per place setting (three knives, four forks, two spoons), and ten teaspoons, six iced tea spoons, and ten serving pieces. Total 159 ozt. plus 24 knives and 3 serving pieces. Estimate $ 2,500-3,500.
