TEL AVIV.- Maya Vinitsky has been appointed as Curator of Design and Architecture at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. She took up her new position on July 1, 2022, replacing retired curator Meira Yagid-Haimovici.

Maya Vinitsky holds a B.A. from the Department of Industrial Design at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, and an M.A. from the School of Cultural Studies at Tel Aviv University. She has worked at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art in various curatorial positions since 2007, and since 2012 has served as Associate Curator in the Department of Design and Architecture. In addition, Vinitsky is a senior lecturer at the Department of Industrial Design (B.Des) and in the Visual Communication master’s degree program at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. In recent years, Vinitsky curated the thematic exhibitions Solar Guerrilla: A Constructive Response to Climate Change (2019); Forbidden Music: X-Ray Audio in the USSR (2018); 3.5 Square Meters: A Constructive Response to Natural Disasters (2017). In addition, she has curated the exhibition NFT: One of Their Kind, which will open on July 5, 2022, as well as solo exhibitions by local artists, such as Vered Kaminsky’s Artificial Stones (2015), and Chanan De Lange’s Ex Libris (2011).

Following her appointment to the position, Maya Vinitsky said: “It is a great privilege for me to be appointed curator of the Department of Design and Architecture at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. In this turbulent time, when the world is undergoing rapid changes in many respects – technologically, environmentally, and socially – our very way of life is changing, for all of us. In the fields of design and architecture, this is fertile ground for action, and for the Department it is an opportunity to examine change and innovation. Accordingly, the Department will serve as a joint platform – locally and internationally – for research and exhibitions, while maintaining a constant dialogue between the Museum, professionals in various fields, and visitors. I thank Tania Coen-Uzzielli, the Museum’s Director, and Mira Lapidot, its Chief Curator, for their trust in me.”

Director of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Tania Coen-Uzzielli: “I welcome the appointment of Maya Vinitsky as Curator of the Department of Design and Architecture, and thank Meira Yagid-Haimovici, the founder of the department, who is currently completing her service in the position. The growing presence of design and architecture in major museums around the world attests to the great importance and impact of these fields in contemporary culture – from technology to burning political and social issues. Maya Vinitsky comes to this position with in-depth professional experience, broad knowledge, endless curiosity, and a finger on the pulse of what is happening in Israel and around the world. I have no doubt that she will very skillfully lead the Department toward growth and innovation, foster entrepreneurship, and develop original and creative thinking in research and future exhibitions.”
