El Museo's Bienal: The (S) Files / The Selected Files 2005.

NEW YORK.-Curated by Deborah Cullen and Miki Garcia with Marysol Nieves El Museo’s 4th showcase exhibition features the most innovative art being produced by emerging Latino and Latin American artists currently living and working in the greater metropolitan region. The (S) Files artists are “selected” from their unsolicited submissions to El Museo’s Artists’ Archives –i.e., the work is literally “selected from the files.” It will feature approximately 35 artists, with an average age of 34, who have never shown at El Museo before.

The (S) Files expands the definition of contemporary Latin American art through a broad, exciting sampling of new projects in diverse media, including painting, drawing, graphics, photography, thr ee-dimensional works, installation, and video as well as projects involving sound, interaction, performance, and new media. Furthering the Museum’s mission to present and promote the art of Puerto Ricans, Caribbean people, and all Latin Americans, particularly those inthe United States, The (S) Files celebrates the experimental immediacy and spontaneity of contemporary art while promoting exceptional, rising talents.

This year , the The (S) Files will broaden its project horizons by including a special invited group of artists f rom Puerto Rico , curated by Marysol Nieves. In the future, El Museo will extend invitations to other nations and their curators to bring a representative group of artists to El Museo’s Bienal.
