The History of Slot Games

Think slots are a new invention? Mistake! As early as 1889, the Caille brothers built the first slot game in the USA. The device was called Black Cat. We look back at the different types of games that have been developed to date. Or check on JustUK the top casinos not on Gamstop.

The One-armed Bandit
The invention of Black Cat by the Caille brothers and many other similar slot games are also known as one-armed bandits.

In these types of games there is the lever, a characteristic side arm that is used to start the game. When you stand in front of a game, the lever arm resembles a human arm. And since the machine has the property of taking money out of the player's pocket, the designation as a bandit is of course obvious. Even today, there are one-armed bandits in many non GamStop casinos that can be started with the side arm. In most cases, however, there is also a button that serves the same purpose as an alternative to the lever arm.

The fact that slots are also called slot machines is due to the money slot into which the coin is thrown.

Modern Slots at Casinos Not on GamStop
Classic slots without levers are familiar to British players primarily from casinos, but also from pubs and restaurants. The mechanical Merkur slots with the sun used to have three rotating discs. But the variant with the rollers is also widespread. Along with Merkur, Novomatic is one of the largest manufacturers of coin-operated machines.

The slot machines usually all have a random number generator on board, which determines the outcome of the game with a generated random number.

Merkur games are notable for having a risk ladder where winnings can be wagered and multiplied (or lost) straight away.

Video Slots
The video slots have revolutionized the world of slots and non GamStop casinos. With a video slot, the random numbers no longer control a mechanical process, but the random number generator activates software.

It sounds banal at first, but it opens up so many new opportunities to make the games on offer more attractive.

Free spins, wilds and a risk ladder can theoretically also be implemented with a machine with mechanical reels or discs.

But with software, it is simply much easier to implement not only free spins but also respins with sticky wilds, variable multipliers and, above all, bonus games.

When Gonzo's Quest crumbles the reels and increases the multiplier on the respins, it's a whole lot better than the slot experience.

Online Slot Games
It's no wonder that the video slots quickly found their way onto the internet. The market for online slots is now huge. Dozens of new games are launched every month. The games are available for all screen devices, including iPhone and Android, smartphones and tablets. In addition to being available on all screen devices and thus in all locations, online slots have another major advantage: they can also be played with play money.

It is absolutely understandable that non GamStop casinos let you gamble with real money. After all, operating the machines costs money – for example to pay the supervisory staff. And when a player gambles with play money in the Autohof, he takes away the place of another potential customer who wants to play with real money.

Of course, this is not a problem online. Apart from the slightly higher server load, the non GamStop casinos don't mind if you test a slot machine for free with play money. The software can run thousands of times simultaneously without requiring more supervisors. The online casino then simply books that as marketing costs and hopes that you might come back to play for real money.
