Antique diamond jewels also shone, with lot 1, a fine antique diamond star brooch selling at the higher end of its £8,000 - £12,000 estimate for £11,000 hammer, showing that experienced collectors are willing to wait for jewels demonstrating the best craftsmanship and style of the period.

LONDON.- With intense bidding both in the UK and internationally, this antique tourmaline and diamond tiara, containing over 70 carats of green tourmalines sold to a private UK collector for £57,500 at luxury experts Elmwood’s in their Fine Jewellery auction at their Notting Hill Saleroom (101 Talbot Road, London, W11 2AT) on 10th-11th August 2022.

Ben Gosling, co-owner of Elmwood’s commented, “Our sale results are testament to the strength of the market, even in these uncertain times. Collectors, both established and emerging, are willing to bid competitively and strongly for pieces that are not just rare, but incredibly well preserved examples of what they are. This is notably true for exceptional gemstones and signed pieces by designers such as Cartier, Van Cleef and Arpels and Boucheron”

Bought by an international collector, a beautiful Art Deco brooch by Boucheron sold for a hammer price of £42,000 (£54,600 including premium). Containing over 13 carats of diamonds within geometric borders of black enamel, demand for this piece was high and the price achieved demonstrates the value of well-preserved signed jewels from iconic periods of their company’s history.

This was strengthened by another antique diamond and enamel brooch, this time lot 18, flying above its £8,000 - £12,000 estimate to achieve £14,000 hammer, selling to an international collector over the telephone.

“With a growing global network of collectors, both private and professional, we have seen a real appetite for rare, unique and fine jewels. As we face these uncertain times, people’s unworn or hidden away jewellery may be worth more than they think, and as we do not charge any selling fees, selling at auction has never been more accessible or lucrative.”
