DENVER, CO.- Hindman will look to continue to engage a thriving Western Art market as it presents its final Western & Contemporary Native American Art sale of 2022 next week. The November 1st auction features fine art created from the height of American westward expansion through the present, including works by some of the most desirable artists in the category. Works from masters of the traditional Western form, like Joseph Henry Sharp, Albert Bierstadt, Frederic Remington, and Adolf Alexander Weinman will appear alongside contemporary artists Martin Grelle, G. Russell Case, Clyde Aspevig, Howard Post, Ed Mell and Louisa McElwain. Hindman is proud to once again include an impressive session of Modern and Contemporary Native American fine art, including works by Fritz Scholder, Earl Biss, Jaune Quick-To-See Smith, David Bradley, and others who are quickly becoming some of the most coveted artists in the category.

Property in the sale was sourced from across Hindman’s national network and features works from a number of important estates, private collections, and institutions, including property being sold to benefit the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming.

The Historic West: The Works of Joseph Henry Sharp and Others Notable Artists

Headlining the auction are a trio of oil paintings by one of the most influential painters of the classic, Western style, Joseph Henry Sharp (American, 1859-1953). The session will feature Where the Deer Come (lot 70), estimated at $80,000 to $120,000. A quintessential Sharp scene, the oil on board depicts a Native American hunter gazing into a tree line on a beautiful fall day. The auction will also feature other important historic Western works, including a landscape by Albert Bierstadt (lot 15), The Buck Overtaken (lot 142) by Frederic Remington, an exquisite casting of Chief Blackbird by Adolph Alexander Weinman (lot 98), and a classic canyon watercolor by Gerard Curtis Delano. The sale will also showcase a session of New Mexico Transcendentalist works by Emil Bisttram and Raymond Jonson as well as a selection of other important Southwestern regionalists including William Sanderson, Gene Kloss and Elliot Torey.
