Mary Blair and Eyvind Earle among animation highlights in Fine Autographs and Artifacts auction
Magnificent Snow White production cel on a custom watercolor background by Toby Bluth.

BOSTON, MASS.- RR Auction's December Fine Autographs and Artifacts sale brings over 1,000 items to the auction block.

A special animation section features production cels from a number of Disney classics, plus concept paintings by legendary artists Mary Blair and Eyvind Earle.

Highlights include; a Mary Blair concept painting of Alice and Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. The original artwork shows the surprised Alice climbing the Cheshire Cat's tree on a moonlit night in the Tulgey Wood; the purple cat grins menacingly while holding his head above his body. Stunningly rendered in shades of purple, blue, and black, the scene is a superb example of Blair's artistic style—the dark composition aptly captures the Cheshire Cat's mischievous nature and Alice's astonishment at seeing him. A stunning, well-composed panoramic painting featuring Blair's stylish interpretation of two of Disney's most desirable characters. (Estimate: $15,000+)

A magnificent original panoramic concept painting by Eyvind Earle for Lady and the Tramp shows Lady and Tramp seated at the candlelit table as Tony and Joe serenade them during their romantic spaghetti supper. A quintessential Eyvind Earle masterwork for one of the most memorable scenes in the Disney canon. (Estimate: $18,000+)

Among production cels is a magnificent Snow White on a custom watercolor background by Toby Bluth. It shows the young princess leaning over a well during the memorable 'I'm Wishing' sequence—the first song featured in the movie, and by extension, the first in the animated canon. (Estimate: $6,000+)

Other important entertainment artifacts are Madonna's 1987 MTV VMA Award for 'Papa Don't Preach' and an Emmy Award for the Ernie Kovacs specials of the 1960s. Sports treasures include multiple Babe Ruth lots, a milestone game-used Pete Rose bat, and other high-grade vintage baseball cards.

Not to be overlooked are significant autographs from Vincent van Gogh, King Henry VIII, Charles Darwin, Abraham Lincoln, and a variety of other iconic figures.

The Fine Autographs and Artifacts auction from RR Auction began on November 18 and will conclude on December 7.
