LOS ANGELES, CALIF.- Roses are red, violets are blue, Moran’s will be having a jewelry sale just for you! While flowers and chocolate are nice, everyone knows the true way to a woman’s (or man’s) heart is with jewelry. This Valentine’s Day, Tuesday, February 14th, 2023 at noon PST, John Moran Auctioneer’s will present their Costume Jewelry & Luxury Accessories Online auction. This colorful sale will highlight the costume jewelry of the Dumont Collection from West Hollywood. There will be vintage designers ranging from CHANEL, Yves Saint Laurent, Iradj Moini, Trifari, Joseff of Hollywood, and Miriam Haskell to name but a few. And, for those that want to keep up with this year’s Spring and Summer jewelry trends, this sale has just what you need!

One accessory that kept popping up on the SS2023 runways was beautiful brooches. Multiple examples of this simple, yet bold statement piece can be found in this auction, including some from Iradj Moini. One is a pomegranate brooch comprising of an 18k gold-plated ruby pomegranate suspended from a peridot, citrine and turquoise branch with an estimate of $500-700. The other, a floral brooch set with lemon quartz, citrines, rubies, pink tourmaline, and multicolored Czech crystals in an 18k gold-plated brass mounting, estimated $500-700. This piece also checks the box for florals in 3D form which are majorly trending!

This season it’s about the décolletage, all day. Think 90s choker, chain, and collar necklaces such as these offerings from Steven Vaubel and Amy Kahn Russell. They will have you looking like you just stepped out of the latest edition of Vogue. The Steven Vaubel Smokey Woods necklace and bracelet set is comprised of a vermeil Smokey Woods rectangular links necklace and a matching vermeil triple band bangle bracelet, estimated $400-600. If you tend to gravitate more toward bright colors, go with the Amy Kahn Russell Amethyst Statement Necklace. This large necklace, estimated $300-500, is set with raw amethyst geode stones bezel-mounted to sterling silver, along with cut and tumbled amethyst beads and T-bar closure.

While “Manic Monday” may be a bit dated, bangles on the wrists are definitely IN! This auction will present two vintage Judith Leiber bracelets, circa 1980-90s — one designed with gold-toned links and the other with gold toned and green enamel links. The pair has a $200-300 estimate. Another Judith Leiber stunner is a Crystal Covered Owl Minaudiere Bag. The multi-toned jeweled owl bag with gold leather lining and drop-in chain is estimated to be $700-900.

Statement earrings of every color and shape abound. Representing the category here will be a lovely pair of CHANEL drop earrings, estimated $200-300. These are gold-toned earrings, each having central green glass cabochon and glass bead berry drops.

The Dumont Collection of Miriam Haskell is well known for fine examples spanning the company’s history. From opera length pearls to chockers and watercolor illustrations, the offerings on Valentine's Day 2023 will not disappoint. —Brenda Smith, John Moran Auctioneers
