BERLIN, GERMANY.-Today, November 24th, Villa Grisebach in Berlin will once again auction off photography with a main focus on classic modern works. Highlights will be vintage prints by Frantisek Drtikol ("Die Befreiung, 1930," EUR 10.000 - 15.000), Andreas Feininger ("Traffic on Fifth Avenue," 1948, a very rare print of this size, EUR 6.000 - 8.000 EUR), Lewis Hine ("Finishing Tower on Empire State," 1931, EUR 12.000 - 14.000), and several architectural shots of Alfred Stieglitz' gallery "An American Place" by Dorothy Norman (EUR 4.000 - 5.000 each), which, in their simple and abstract manner, reflect the groundbreaking role of this institution.

One of several works by German photographer Albert Renger-Patzsch is his plant-study "Samenkapsel des Löwenzahns," from 1922-23 (EUR 10.000-12.000) influenced by the Neue Sachlichkeit. Also included are New York artist Louis Stettner with his famous Pop-Art forerunner "Times Square Sailor" from 1951 (EUR 4.000-6.000), as well as Lillian Bassman with her fashion photographies (EUR 4.000-6.000).

Extremely rare vintages by Roman Visniac show Jewish everyday-life scenes during the 1930s (Cheder Boys, Vrchni Asa, EUR 12.000-14.000, Talmud, Warsaw, EUR 4.000 - 6.000) The Jewish Museum in Berlin will be devoting a whole exhibition to his work starting November 2005.

Contemporary photography will be represented by Peter Lindbergh ("Naomi Campbell, Deauville," 1988, EUR 8.000-12.000), Hiroshi Sugimoto ("South Pacific Ocean," 1990, EUR 12.000 - 15.000), and Michael Majjar's large-scale portraits from the series "Japanese Style" from 1999 -2000 (EUR 4.000 - 6.000 each). Altogether, a total of 317 lots will be up for auction this fall.
