ANDOVER.- The Addison Gallery of American Art presents the exhibit Summertime in New England- The show evokes images of lively ports, bustling towns and beaches, and sun-drenched fields and hills. For centuries, artists have used balances of light, color, and movement in different ways to create images highlighting this vitality that is so quintessential of summer.
In The Nature of Summer, Elaine Crivelli's Art 300 class curated an exhibit to capture the essence of summer, drawing together works ranging from realism to post-impressionism to abstract, and representing artists such as Winslow Homer, Hans Hofmann and Maurice Prendergast. This exhibit provides unique portrayals of the moods and feelings inspired by summertime in New England and charts the evolution of the theme across the centuries in American art.
The exhibition was organized by the Phillips Academy Art 300 class: Visual Culture: Discovering the Addison Collection. Participating students were: Ashley Calhoun, Isabelle Cannell, Tawil Contreras, Charles Frentz, Elinor Garcia-Garcia, Harrison Greer, Sarah Linnemann, Emerson Moore, Corbin Tognoni, Shani Small, Ishani Vellodi.
