CHICAGO.- John W. Rowe, Chairman and CEO of electric utility company Exelon, has returned a 2,600 year old Egyptian coffin he had in his office. Zahi Hawass, secretary-general of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, became outraged recently when he learned that Rowe had the coffin in his office. “Hawass was attending a press preview of the Field Museum's new exhibit, "Tutankhamen and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs", when he used the opportunity to demand that Rowe surrender the artifact or be banned from sponsorship of the exhibit,” reported the Chicago Tribune.

Currently the chairman and chief executive officer of Exelon, John W. Rowe has served as chairman, chief executive officer and president of Unicom Corporation prior to the merger of Unicom and PECO Energy. Rowe was also president and chief executive officer of New England Electric System (1989-98) and he served as president and chief executive officer of Central Maine Power Company (1984-89) before which he was senior vice president of law for Consolidated Rail Corporation (Conrail) in Philadelphia. In addition, Rowe worked with the Chicago law firm of Isham, Lincoln & Beale (1970-80) where he was a partner and served as counsel to the Trustees of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad Company.
