NEW YORK, NY.- Roland Auctions NY will present the final offering of the legendary Phyllis Lucas Gallery collection in New York on Saturday, November 4th, 2023 at 11am. Previews for the November 4th auction are by appointment only (call Roland at 212-260-2000) on Nov. 2nd & 3rd at the Phyllis Lucas Gallery (AKA the Old Print Center) at 133 East 54th Street 2nd floor. NY, NY 10022.

Take a glimpse into world history, as told through over 20,000 antique and historical prints of all kinds, along with other artwork, in this one final auction. Don't miss this institution’s last glance at the past and a very unique auction opportunity.

The plan was for Roland Auctions NY to offer the collection over several installments throughout this year. Due to the extremely large inventory of original prints, lithographs, etchings and paintings from the vast archives of the gallery, many had still not been catalogued. With this vast inventory not yet offered at auction, Roland saves the best for last, now grouping many lots together with multiple pieces, most still in the over 400 flat drawers in the gallery. Many of which contain in excess of 100 pieces each, with others containing 30-70 in each.

Lots in the November 4th auction will be offered in groups by categories such as floral, maps, botanical, birds, fashion, animals, history and so on. All the prints are from the actual archives of the famed gallery, which was at the forefront of the Manhattan art world for decades, dating back to 1928. In the mid-1960’s, building on their collaboration with Salvador Dali, the Phyllis Lucas Gallery becoming the first North American publisher of his lithographs and published 26 editions of his images, including the extraordinary Lucas Collection of Dali Originals, published between 1965 and 1974.

Along with the many rare original works by surrealist Salvador Dali, the massive inventory includes antique maps and illustrations, etchings and lithography, engravings, modern and contemporary fine art, photography, original paintings and vintage posters.

During the 30's and 40's the gallery was also a publishing house specializing in French etchings under the label "Paris Etching Society". Sydney Lucas contracted with French artists to publish editions of their work. After Sydney died in the mid 60's, his wife Phyllis carried on the family business, building on their collaboration with Salvador Dali,
