2023 Luxury Sales at Christie's Asia xceed US $258 million for third consecutive year

HONG KONG.- In 2023, Luxury sales at Christie’s Asia have achieved a running total of HK$2.15 billion (US$277 million). The Hong Kong Autumn Auctions spanning Jewellery, Watches, Handbags, and Wine, realised a market-leading HK$822,157,000 / US$105,964,609, with an exceptional overall sell-through rate of 91% by lot. These remarkable results reflect the appeal of Christie’s sale curation and astute pricing strategy for the market in the region, significantly driven by digital participation and an influx of new and younger buyers.

Wine & Spirits | 24-25 November

Autumn Live Sales Total: HK$53,543,750 / US$6,901,045, Quality offering 94% sold by lot.


On 24 and 25 November, Christie’s Hong Kong presented two live sales of wine and spirits, achieving a combined total of HK$53,543,750 / US$6,901,045. The outstanding offering across the sales resulted in a high sell-through rate of 94% by lot. Christie’s were honoured to present the first part of the superb European single-owner cellar of Dr A. Botenga, which was extremely well received, with success in iconic offerings from renowned Bordeaux Châteaux and Burgundy Domaines. A second offering of the cellar will be sold live in London on 1 December. Fine and Rare Wines & Spirits Online: Festive Edition continues to welcome bidding until 1 December; and Fine and Rare Wines & Spirits Online: Featuring Rarities from the Cellar of a British Writer is open until 7 December.

Handbags & Accessories | 25 November

Autumn Live Sale Total: HK$54,986,400 / US$7,086,983, Stunning sale selection 94% sold by lot. Highest Ever Annual Sale Total For The Category Globally: HK$154 million / US$20 million, marking a decade of market leadership in Asia Pacific.

On 25 November, Christie’s Hong Kong presented a selection of handbags and accessories in a live auction, which totalled HK$54,986,400 / US$7,086,983. The sale affirmed a decade of Christie’s market leadership for handbags and accessories in Asia, and contributed to the highest ever annual sale total for the category globally of HK$154 million / US$20 million. Christie’s meticulous sale curations in the region, featuring the world’s most coveted designs, continue to entice new and younger buyers as well as significant digital engagement – 28% of the buyers were new, millennials accounted for over 70% of new buyers, and more than 40% of collectors acquired pieces through online bidding.

Watches | 26 November

Autumn Live Sales Total: HK$222,231,750 / US$28,642,583, the second highest autumn sale total at Christie’s Asia, Highest Ever Annual Sale Total For The Category in Asia: HK$683 million / US$88 million, Christie’s Watches proudly leads the market in Asia.

On 26 November, Christie’s Hong Kong presented three live watches auctions, Important Watches; The OAK Collection Part I; and The Philippe & Elisabeth Dufour Foundation Charity Auction, which together achieved a sale total of HK$222,231,750 / US$28,642,583, the second highest autumn total at Christie’s Asia. The excellent results attest to the sales’ quality selection of timepieces and strong pricing approach for the market, which drew vast global participation from 39 countries spanning 5 continents, with millennials comprising 40% of new buyers.

Magnificent Jewels & The Pink Supreme | 27 November

Autumn Live Sale Total: HK$491,395,000 / US$63,333,998, the second highest autumn auction total for the category in Asia since 2017, Exceptional 96% hammer price achieved against the pre-sale estimate, 2023 Running Sale Total at Christie’s Asia: HK$1.08B / US$139,545,562

On 27 November, Christie’s Hong Kong presented Magnificent Jewels & The Pink Supreme in a live auction, which achieved a sale total of HK$491,395,000 / US$63,333,998, demonstrating the strength of the market in Asia for the category. The sale’s diverse curation of coloured and colourless diamonds, jade, and creations from renowned jewellery houses resulted in an exceptional hammer price of 96% against the pre-sale estimate. The sale was led by The Pink Supreme – a 15.48 carat Fancy Intense Pink Internally Flawless Type Ila Diamond – which realised HK$83,875,000 / US$10,810,322 (price per carat: HK$5,418,282 / US$700,000) and continues Christie’s strong track record in offering the rarest exquisite coloured diamonds.
