PARIS.- The Mennour Institute recently announced the success of its “Mennour Emergence” program, committed to supporting young artists in the early stages of their careers. Its first call for applications, sent this year to young graduates of the Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2023, met with exceptional enthusiasm, with about 50 applications received (i.e. almost one graduate in two).

The committee made up of professionals renowned for their commitment to emerging creation—Anna Labouze and Keimis Henni from Artagon, Rebecca Lamarche-Vadel from Lafayette Anticipations, Armelle Pradalier from Beaux-Arts de Paris, as well as Christian Alandete, Jessy Mansuy and Sylvie Patry, and chaired by Kamel Mennour himself—had the task of choosing from among exceptional talents.

The winners will receive full support at every stage of the exhibition process (curating, production, logistics and communication).

Following the jury’s verdict, the Mennour Institute is pleased to present the six winning artists who will benefit from the “Mennour Emergence” program:

Lucie Antoinette (born 1993). From her photographs, she paints aquatic, terrestrial and celestial landscapes, and dreamlike visions of nature.

Joséphine Berthou (born 1996). Inspired by encounters with strangers and their environments, her films and installations blend documentary, fiction and musical.

Thibault Hiss (b. 1997). His sculptural practice operates a hybridization. Fables are methodically assembled with industrial objects and materials.

Nina Jayasuriya (born 1996). Through ceramic, oil painting or tattooing, she archives images which pay homage to the link between profane and sacred.

Nicolas Kyrillou (born 1998). Using the Buffer Zone that divides Cyprus in two as a starting point, he explores the memory of territories through video and sculpture.

Sehyoung Lee (born 1993). Through performance, installation and poetry, he explores the indeterminate point of intersection between his body, where it comes from and the space it inhabits.

These talented young artists will receive a total grant of €15,000 for the production of their works, i.e. €2,500 (excluding VAT) per artist, as well as full support in all the stages of the exhibition process (curating, production, logistics and communication).

The group exhibition of the winners will be held from February 22 to March 30, 2024 at Mennour, 5 rue du Pont de Lodi, Paris.

For the first time, the exhibition will bring together the multidisciplinary practices of these six artists from the same promotion.

The Mennour Institute thanks all the candidates, the Beaux-Arts de Paris and the selection committee for their commitment, helping to make “Mennour Emergence” a promising springboard for young artistic creation.

Mennour Institute is an initiative of Mennour to promote research and education in the field of twentieth and twenty-first-century art. Through doctoral fellowships, educational programs and philanthropic activities, Mennour Institute is committed to supporting creativity, knowledge and the sharing of ideas in the field of contemporary art.
