SEATTLE.- The Seattle Art Museum will host the premiere of Picnics, Rhythms and Vacations, a new installation by internationally acclaimed sound artist and sculptor, Trimpin. Using slide projectors stacked from floor to ceiling and filled with hundreds of found slides collected from flea markets around the world, Trimpin creates a percussive sound composition, accompanied by images thrown on the gallerys walls, floor and ceiling. Best known for his inventive mechanical sculptures that play instruments, the German-born artist uses found and recycled materials and computer technology to explore the visual and conceptual dimensions of acoustic and automated sound.
This installation concludes a year-long series of exhibitions at the Henry Art Gallery, Consolidated Works, the Museum of Glass, Washington State University Museum of Art, Suyama Space, the Frye Art Museum, the Vancouver Jazz Festival and the Tacoma Art Museum celebrating Trimpins 25th year of work. Curated by Susan Rosenberg, Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art.
