NEW YORK.- Christies New York announced the appointment of Ingrid Dudek as Assistant Vice President, Associate Specialist, Asian Contemporary Art. In this role, Ms. Dudek will play a central part in broadening the business getting activities in America within the rapidly developing area of Asian Contemporary Art. She will contribute to the Post-War and Contemporary Art sales in New York, London and Hong Kong. Ms. Dudek will be based in New York and work closely with Eric Chang, International Director Asian Contemporary Art in Hong Kong and Amy Cappellazzo and Brett Gorvy, International Co-Heads Post-War and Contemporary Art in New York.
We are delighted to have Contemporary Asian Art spread its wings and recognized by a global audience that appreciates the East/West exchanges reflected in the art of our times. Ingrid will play an important role in Christie's unique strategy of juxtaposing contemporary Asian art and its Western counterparts and we are looking forward to seeing the field of contemporary art gaining in strength and depth, said Eric Chang. Christies is thrilled to see the expansion of the Chinese art market into the realm of traditional Post-War and Contemporary art collectors, added Amy Cappellazzo. As the future of this market is clearly taking shape through the internationalization of its audience, we have decided to include Chinese contemporary art in addition to our sales in Asia alongside works of living contemporary artists offered in New York and London. Having lived and worked in Beijing, Ingrid is a pioneer in this field who brings not only unparalleled knowledge of Chinese contemporary art, but also an understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture.
Ingrid holds a BA degree in Art History from the University of California at Berkeley and an MA degree in Anthropology from New York University. She spent several years in Beijing as both a Fulbright fellow and also as manager of the CourtYard Gallery, the renowned Contemporary Chinese art gallery. Based more recently in New York, Ingrid has built strong connections within the contemporary Asian art community through project work with the International Center of Photography, and the management of a private Chinese art collection.
