MEXICO CITY.- Few times death tells us when its coming and a lot of times one doesn´t immediately know when a friend dies. This is the case of a person who was a Mexican diplomat in Boston and Consulate for Mexico in New York during nine years, Jaime Peñavera, who died this past July 21st in Mexico City.

A man full of culture, who studied at at the University of Fribourg and Harvard, a lover of the female beauty, who spoke several languages and very refines when choosing a restaurant he was always willing to support artists from his country who wanted an opportunity in “the exciting city”.

When he was Consulate he organized several exhibits and contacted many artists with art collectors.

At that time he lived in an apartment in Park Avenue where a Henry Moore sculpture greeted visitors.

Jaime always thought that the best that could happen to the great collection of Mexican art belonging to Jaques and Natasha Gelman was for it to return to Mexico, which did happen. The splendid modern art collection stayed in New York at the Metropolitan Museum of that fascinating city.

From deep our hearts, all of us at ArtDaily, send our deepest regrets to the family of a person who was a great friend, the best of friends, Jaime Peñavera, who in his last days was accompanied by his sister María Eugenia Peñavera and by his real friends.
