Jarrah Boards: Is It An Expensive Flooring Material

Are you looking for nice and elegant timber for flooring? You must know more about jarrah floor boards, a dark red wood that is excellent for flooring. Jarrah wood is a dark red wood that is durable and it offers natural resistance to insects. Homeowners who want to make their home look more comfortable would choose jarrah timber due to these incredible characteristics:

● look warm
● inviting
● durable
● resilience

Benefits of Jarrah flooring

Here are the top three benefits of Jarrah wood that make it a great choice:

● Great durability
● Naturally invulnerable to insect infestation
● Creates a lustrous, warm, and very elegant look

What is Jarrah usually used for?

Jarrah or Eucalyptus Marinata has incredible density, making it fire-resistant, which is commonly used in the following structures:

● wharf and bridge construction
● railway sleepers
● cross arms
● poles and piles

Construction applications may include:

● general house framing
● flooring
● linings
● joinery
● fencing

Description of Jarrah's wood

The dark red wood has several characters, making it a great option for flooring, such as:

● Color and appearance. The heartwood has three different colors, such as:

○ Red
○ Brown
○ Darker brick red

These colors become darker when exposed to light. The thin sapwood has a light yellow to pink.

● Texture/grain. The grain is interlocked or wavy with a medium to coarse texture. Some boards contain streaks or gum pockets as the naturally-occurring defect. Jarrah can also show a curly figure.

● Endgrain. The large pores are arranged in diagonal rows, exclusively solitary. It also has growth rings indistinct, the narrow rays invisible without a lens and the spacing is normal.

● Rot resistance. Jarrah is very durable when speaking of decay resistance, and fairly resistant to insect attacks.

● Workability. Jarrah is difficult to machine because of the interlocked grain and high density. Jarrah has a moderate blunting impact on the cutting edges.

● Odor. Jarrah has no characteristic odor.

● Pricing and availability. Jarrah is distributed timber throughout southwest Australia and prices for the local lumber must be moderate. The prices for imported Jarrah are in the mid-range for an exotic lumber. The curly pieces are much more pricey.

● Sustainability. The wood species is not on the list in CITES Appendices or IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

The common uses of Jarrah boards are:

● Flooring
● Heavy Construction
● Veneer
● Cabinetry
● Outdoor furniture
● Turned objects

The great durability of Jarrah and its common occurrence made it a useful timber for exterior projects. The rich red color and high density are for use as a flooring material.
