NEW YORK.- The World Trade Center Memorial Foundation and the New York Jets today announced the team will launch a campaign to help raise funds to build the World Trade Center Memorial, donating over $300,000 in advertising time. Commercials featuring two of the Jets best known alums, Vinny Testaverde and Wayne Chrebet, will air before, during and after Jets games in August, September and October reaching millions of sports fans in the tri-state area.
The World Trade Center Memorial Foundation is proud to partner with the New York Jets to raise money to build the Memorial, WTC Memorial Foundation Acting President Joe Daniels said. In the wake of September 11th, professional sports such as football helped lift our spirits. When the football season resumed after 9/11 and the Jets secured their first victory that season over the Patriots, all New Yorkers were boosted by their win. Now, the Jets are helping New York once again by partnering with us to build the Memorial. We look forward to September 10th when thousands of Jets fans will hear the new commercials and gather in venues around the city to cheer their team and support the Memorial. We are grateful to Woody Johnson and the Jets for their generosity and to Vinny Testaverde and Wayne Chrebet for their support.
The World Trade Center Memorial will create a sacred place to reflect on the terrible events of September 11th, 2001, and provide a lasting tribute to all the innocent men, women and children who lost their lives, Jets Owner Woody Johnson said. But the Memorial will also celebrate the heroic efforts of so many who jeopardized their own safety to help others.
Mr. Johnson continued, Just as our nation and city came together as one to recover from the attacks, we must unite on the fifth anniversary and resolve to build a fitting, permanent memorial. I want to thank Vinny Testaverde and Wayne Chrebet for donating their time and effort to this important cause.
It is a great honor to be involved in the fundraising efforts for the World Trade Center Memorial, Vinny Testaverde said. As a New Yorker, I will never forget the events of that tragic day and the heroic efforts of our police officers, firefighters and countless others who worked so hard to save the lives of innocent victims.
Wayne Chrebet said, It is an honor to be able to have a small part in keeping alive the memory of all those affected on that tragic day.
The donated inventory includes 8 thirty-second television spots and 60 one-minute radio spots during pre-game, in-game, and post-game broadcasts which will run from August 25, 2006 to October 29, 2006. Commercials featuring Vinny Testeverde and Wayne Chrebet will air during those time slots.
The Jets will also donate raffle items for numerous football viewing parties to benefit the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation, which will take place on Sunday, September 10, 2006 throughout the tri-state area. Omnicom and Miller Brewing Company are helping to organize and promote the parties and Steiner Sports is donating sports memorabilia items to be auctioned off to benefit the Memorial Foundation. Jets alumni players are expected to attend parties. A list of participating venues to be released later this month.
Woody Johnson has served on board of directors of the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation since December 1, 2004.
In early July, the Foundation launched a national campaign to help raise the remaining $170 million needed for construction and planning of the Memorial and Museum. The Foundation has already raised over $131 million from corporations, foundations, and individuals from all 50 states and 11 different countries.
