ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIAN FEDERATION.- The State Russian Museum presents Forgotten Russia - Projects and models of monuments from the State Russian Museum collection, on view through October 2006 at St Michael's Castle. The exhibition introduces an extensive historic and artistic material on the lost and not realized monuments designed before 1917. Sculpture projects, models, and reduced copies of the monuments are the base of the exhibition; these are accompanied by drawings, engravings, medals, and photographs. More than 100 artworks from the State Russian Museum Collection are presented.
Our history, full of events is reflected in designed, erected; destroyed and revived monuments. It is a tremendous culture layer, which is impossible to represent within the framework of q single exhibition. Artworks presented at the exhibition and revived according to the archive documents and literature materials are only detached, but sometimes absolutely forgotten pages of the two-century chronicle of the Russian monumental plastic arts.
Not only Moscow and St Petersburg monuments will be presented at the exhibition. The Museum exhibits gave an opportunity to study monuments, created in very different corners of the Russian Empire. Works of such famous monumental sculptors as I. Martos, N. Pimenov, A. Opekushin, I. Schroeder, V. Beklemishev, and L. Sherwud will be showcased.
