DOYLESTOWN, PA.- The James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown is proud to announce Todd Stone: Witness on view through November 5, 2006. This 9/11 commemorative exhibition features watercolors that capture the tragic events of that day made by artist Todd Stone, who witnessed the devastation from his studio window in Lower Manhattan, only a few blocks from the World Trade Center. Witness is sponsored by Andrew and Mary Lou Abruzzese and the Pineville Tavern.

Stone describes the exhibit as "an elegy to the lives lost and altered that day." "My wife and I were at my Tribeca studio on that sunny morning when the first jet roared over the skylight and slammed into the North Tower six blocks away," said Stone. "My camera was at the window as the day before I had been photographing the melancholy, rainy rooftops. I took my first photo within seconds of the impact as the pigeons were lifting to the sound of the explosion."

Stone spent the remainder of that tragic day drawing and photographing, and later turned his terror and grief into a series of watercolors that record the events of 9/11 as only an eyewitness could. This exhibition features a selection of these powerful images, which have also been exhibited at the New York Historical Society, Art Museum of Southeast Texas, the Florence Biennale, Italy and the Opelousas Museum of Art, Louisiana.

Todd Stone was born in New York City and has worked there for years. He is also a resident of Bucks County; before 9/11 he considered his Kintnersville studio a retreat from the pressures of Manhattan, but afterward the place became more of a true home. He is currently president of the Gallows Run Watershed Association in Nockamixon Township, Pennsylvania and publisher of its newsletter, the "Upper Bucks Futures." "My sense of community was strengthened and I was pulled into public service."

Stone has exhibited his work internationally in museums and galleries for more than 30 years. He is the recipient of numerous awards including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Painting, Abbey Fund Fellowship from the National Academy of Design and grants from the Kittredge Fund and the Puffin Foundation. Stone studied at Wesleyan University and received his bachelor's degree in fine arts from the University of New Mexico.
