Volunteer Docents Choose New Exhibit at Benton Museum of Art |
|

Works by Edward Hopper will be on view at the Benton Museum.

STORRS, CT.- The William Benton Museum of Art at the School of Fine Arts , University of Connecticut presents the exhibit Docents' Choice: Look and Look Again! Through October 15. Docents' Choice: Look and Look Again! presents a selection of works chosen from the Benton collections by the volunteer docents. This exhibition is the result of a year-long curatorial project enthusiastically undertaken by the Benton Museum's docents under the direction of Education Coordinator Tracy Lawlor.
The works chosen from the Bentons collections reflect the docents accumulated knowledge acquired in leading tours for museum visitors and studying the works in the Museum's collections. These 20 dedicated volunteers have put their understanding of how to introduce visitors to art as both an aesthetic and a cultural experience into their personal choice of paintings, sculptures, prints, and photographs that they consider intriguing, illustrative, educational, and/or just plain appealing. The questions they asked themselves were: Why is this work of art worth a second look? What meaning does this object have for me and perhaps for others? What does art add to our lives?
Selections include works by Edward Hopper, Maurice Prendergast, John Sloan, Kara Walker and Enrique Chagoya.
