NEW YORK, NY.- Didier Aaron Inc. is presenting Textiles en Orient, a solo exhibition by French artist Veronique Heim, running from October 24th to November 16th, 2024.

Elegance de la route de la soie, caftan rouge flamboyant et blanc

Heim draws inspiration from her travels, nature, museums, and the works of Pierre Bonnard, whose mastery of color associations and vibrancy influence her own vivid color arrangements. She explores color, texture, and composition in ways that connect the viewer to the rich traditions of India, Morocco, Vietnam, and Uzbekistan. Her art reflects the customs, social nuances, and styles of these regions, creating a bridge between classical painting techniques and cultural heritage. Textiles en Orient presents a variety of subjects – shoes, dresses, jewelry – in a variety of compositions, each crafted from a boundless palette of colors and fabrics arranged into a perfect equilibrium.

Veronique Heim’s process is as detailed as her subject matter. She begins by affixing Japanese paper to the canvas, a technique that enhances paint absorption. A base layer of commercial paint followed by a grisaille technique establishes the foundational play of shadows and light. Heim then applies oil paint with Japanese brushes to capture the delicate textures and fluidity of the fabrics she portrays. A final layer of rich varnish brings her work to life, creating the vibrancy that recalls what Matisse once described as ‘bonheur de vivre’.

Hervé Aaron, President of Didier Aaron Inc., comments: “Whether it be folded fabrics, a pile of carpets, or an empty dress, Veronique’s paintings are infused with a dynamic interplay of line and color that transport us to places where color is woven into the very fabric of daily life.” He adds, “I hope you will travel as I have through these treasures, and that this symphony of color will bring you as much joy as it has brought me.”

Teinture d'indigo, tradition hmong du Nord Vietnam

Veronique Heim is an accomplished artist and restoration specialist with extensive training from l'Ecole du Louvre, l'Ecole des Beaux-Arts, and several other esteemed Parisian ateliers. She has mastered both traditional painting techniques and specialized methods such as trompe-l'oeil, faux wood, and faux marble. Since the 1980's, Veronique's work has been exhibited throughout Europe. Her career began with sketches and paintings inspired by interior views and vibrant garden scenes and has since led to intricate explorations of textiles and fabrics. Her work has been featured in prestigious galleries, including Galerie Jean Francois Heim in Paris, Galerie Maurizio Nobile in Bologna, and Antonacci Lapiccirella Fine Art in Rome.

Or et lumières, collier d'argent et cercles d'or, splendeur nuptiale
