LONDON.- Sotheby’s announces the sale of Real Madrid’s first team locker room from the iconic Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. Bidding will open online from 12 November at sothebys.com for two weeks. The sale occurs following the most extensive renovation of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium the club’s history.

Marking the first time any locker from a European championship team has been offered at auction, the sale is being held in partnership with Pursuit 3 Marketing Group S.L., the official Real Madrid memorabilia partner.

The Official RMCF Memorabilia programme is the most extensive and ambitious sports memorabilia project ever undertaken in the world of sport. As the Premium Affiliate Partner to the Official Memorabilia programme, Sotheby’s is responsible for curating and purveying the most distinctive, rare and valuable artefacts. Thousands of other items from the iconic Santiago Bernabéu Stadium will also be offered on the Official RMCF Memorabilia website.

“As the Official RMCF Memorabilia Partner, Pursuit 3 Group is honoured to appoint Sotheby’s to undertake this remarkable and prestigious project. We are proud to play an integral and important role for RMCF; keeping the magical memories of the most decorated team in all of sport preserved forever by allowing discerning collectors and fans around the world to own a true piece of sporting history.” -- Jon Curleigh, Co-Director of Pursuit 3 Marketing Group S.L.

24 lockers used by Real Madrid’s legendary players, including Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham. Zinedine Zidane, Sergio Ramos and Luís Figo will be offered individually with bidding starting at £10,000. Each locker will be presented as it appeared during the 2022 season and will be accompanied by a letter certifying its authenticity and listing each of the players who once called the locker their own. During this period 544 home games were played at the stadium and some 20 trophies held aloft by the team - from six UEFA Champions League victories to six La Liga wins.

The auction will also include The Real Madrid Santiago Bernabéu Stadium Mosaic measuring approximately three metres wide with bidding opening at £12,000, alongside the stadium’s metal doors, with bidding opening at £8,000.

“Sotheby's is privileged to have been appointed to stage this unique auction of treasures from Real Madrid’s storied and celebrated history. The sale of the locker room, in use by the first team from 2002 to 2022 along with other artefacts from the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium is an integral part of Real Madrid’s mission to share its heritage, providing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for football fans and collectors from around the world to cherish a piece of its legacy. We look forward to welcoming collectors and fans from all over the world to our exhibition, which will be free and open to all, in London this November. -- George North, Director, Sotheby’s London

A portion of the proceeds from the sale will benefit The Real Madrid Foundation - committed to encouraging the education of children, promoting the social inclusion of the most vulnerable members of society, and building a world-class memorabilia programme for the club and its fans.

Following the success of Kobe Bryant’s Staples Centre locker auction in August 2024, which sold for a record breaking $2.9M, the Real Madrid locker room is a fantastic addition to Sotheby’s growing sports memorabilia sales.

“Sotheby’s has built and continues to establish a dynamic programme of unique artefacts from across the sporting world and it is a privilege to stage an auction that continues this legacy in London. On the heels of auctioning Kobe Bryant’s Locker from the Staples Centre which sold for a record breaking $2.9M this past summer, we are thrilled to offer these historic relics that give the public a glimpse behind the gilded curtain of the legendary Santiago Bernabéu and one of the world’s most decorated football clubs.” -- Brendan Hawkes, Specialist, Sports and Modern Collectibles, Sotheby’s

A free, public exhibition of the artefacts from the stadium will take place at Sotheby’s New Bond Street Galleries from 20 until 26 November.
