PITTSBURGH, PA.- The Silver Eye Center for Photography presents William Wegman Its A Dogs Life, on view through November 4, 2006. The Polaroid Collections prized exhibit of William Wegman's fine art photography is a treasure to behold. The companys legacy of museum quality Polaroid instant photographs captures the history and unlimited potential of photography as it revolutionized society.
Internationally famous artist William Wegman's elegant weimaraner dog Man Ray stars as his humorous subject. Animal lovers will appreciate the comical poses Wegman styled as he dressed up his hunting dog in amusing costumes. Wegman's celebrity dog is named in honor of the Surrealist artist Man Ray.
"It's A Dog's Life" features 28 works by Wegman of his "best friend" Man Ray. Included are images of the sleek Man Ray in roller skates (Rolleramer, 1987); a domestic scene of two weimaraners in long dresses and aprons (Serving Trout, 1991); and a physically fit dog on his exercise bicycle (Stud 2000).
Wegman's fine art images were created by a giant size Polaroid instant 20x24-inch camera. The color images emerged from a 5-foot camera weighing 235 pounds. Very rare, only six Polaroid 20x24-inch cameras exist, delivering large format photos in just 70 seconds.
Admired worldwide, Wegman's works have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York and The Art Institute of Chicago, and in European museums.
More Polaroid 20x24-inch fine art photographs are permanently displayed in London s Victoria and Albert Museum , the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris , Amsterdam s Stedelijk Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
