NEW YORK, NY.- Groundbreaking auction series Mica: The Collection of Mica Ertegun continues this December with four sales showcasing Jewelry, Design and Decorative Arts from Mrs. Ertegun’s personal collections in Manhattan, Southampton and Paris. The series includes two live New York sales – Magnificent Jewels and Mica: The Collection of Mica Ertegun Part III taking place on December 10th and 13th respectively, and online New York and Paris sales open for bidding from December 4th through December 17th and 18th. All offerings reflect Mica’s eye for style and eye for design. Sale exhibitions will be on view at Christie’s New York beginning December 6th and Christie’s Paris beginning December 13th.

The historic series began on November 19th and November 20th with two Single-Owner Sales of the finest examples of Surrealism and 20th Century Art: Mica: The Collection of Mica Ertegun Parts I and II. During Part I, René Magritte’s L'empire des lumières established a new benchmark selling for a price of $121.2 million and setting the record for a Surrealist work of art.

Mrs. Ertegun was a celebrated designer, philanthropist, and collector who acquired with sensitivity and a multicultural sensibility over the course of her lifetime. She was the embodiment of elegance, with singular aesthetic vision, who was entrusted by the world’s most enlightened figures to design the interiors of their homes. This December, the auction series continues, paying tribute to her unmatched eye with an array of offerings that she loved and lived with during her life.

Among the highlights are a pair of mid-20th Century French Brass Palm Trees attributed to Maison Jansen, among the most important French design firms from the 19th and 20th century, with representation in leading institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Additional highlights include furniture designed by Ingrid Donat, including a chaise longue and a set of lamps. A leading contemporary sculptor and designer who counts Diego Giacometti among her mentors, Ingrid Donat is known for fusing traditional aesthetic with Art Deco through careful craftsmanship. She is one of the most highly coveted names in contemporary design.

With accessible starting prices, the Jewelry, Design, and Decorative Art sales are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the global community to own a part of the Mica Ertegun legacy of style and design. A significant portion of the seller’s sale proceeds is intended to benefit her philanthropic initiatives. Mica’s contributions to organizations in the realms of art, music, education, and religion were innumerable, ranging from efforts to preserve heritage sites including Brancusi’s Endless Column in Romania and the Edicule of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem to the establishment in perpetuity of the Ertegun Graduate Scholarship Programme in Humanities at Oxford University.
