A great souvenir or accessible reference volume, Rijksmuseum in Detail offers a concise introduction to 50 highlighted pieces in the museum’s amazing collection.

The public is of central importance to the Rijksmuseum. Janneke van der Wijk and her colleagues will be dedicated to ensuring that any visit to the Rijksmuseum, whether physical or digital, is an unforgettable experience. She will also seek out connections beyond the walls of the museum in order to show the treasures of the Rijksmuseum to broad audiences throughout the Netherlands. –Taco Dibbits, Director of the Rijksmuseum

Janneke van der Wijk (b. 1971) was born in Dantumadeel, Friesland, and studied Historical Pedagogy at the University of Amsterdam. For the last three years she has been the director of the ELJA Foundation, a new arts endowment fund. Under her leadership it grew into an innovative and enterprising fund with more than 150 programmes run by cultural organisations throughout the Netherlands and the Caribbean region.

Prior to her tenure at the ELJA Foundation, for 11 years Janneke van der Wijk was the Director of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, one of the leading institutes in the international field of music. Before joining the conservatorium, Van der Wijk was the director of the Netherlands Music Institute, the national and international sectoral organisation for music. Janneke van der Wijk will remain involved with the ELJA Foundation as a member of the board.

Janneke van der Wijk succeeds Hendrikje Crebolder, the Rijksmuseum’s Director of Development & Media from 2017 to 2024.

I am delighted and greatly honoured to have been appointed by the Supervisory Board. The Rijksmuseum is one of the world’s leading museums, and a unique place where art and history come together. My position here offers a wonderful opportunity to contribute to inspiring and connecting people and to advance understanding of the rich cultural identity of the Netherlands in an international context. In our ever-changing world, it is more important than ever that the Rijksmuseum remains a source of inspiration for all generations. –Janneke van der Wijk
