MONTGOMERY.- The Montgomery Museum of Art presents the exhibit Trompe LOeil: The Art of Illusion through December 3. Trompe L'Oeil is a very demanding art form dating back to ancient times and continues to fascinate people. In 19th century America, this painting genre became extremely popular with the emergence of great practitioners, which included William Harnett, John Frederick Peto and John Haberle, among others. These wonderful artists can also be credited for elevating still life painting to a higher level. This phenomenon has continued into the 20th and 21st centuries. Tromp LOeil brings together some of the leading Trompe L'Oeil artists in America today who have the great skill, virtuosity, imagination and patience for this art form: Larry Charles, Donald Clapper, Eric Conklin, Ken Davies, Gary Erbe, Michael Gallarda, Gerald Hodge, Michael Molnar, Gayle Tate, Debra Teare and Gregory West. Guest Curator, Gary T. Erbe.
