NEW YORK, NY.- Sotheby’s and Napa Valley Vintners announced their continuation of a successful venture through 2027. This ongoing relationship, which began three years ago, has brought remarkable growth and success to both Napa Valley’s wine industry and the global wine community. Together, they have supported local Napa Valley programs, raised significant funds and introduced wine enthusiasts worldwide to Napa’s premier wines.
Since the relationship began, year-over-year growth has been remarkable, with sales increasing by 66 % over the past three years —from $ 4.2M in 2022 to $7M in 2024. Napa Valley Vintners' sales now represent almost 30 % of wine auctions serviced by Sotheby’s in the U. S. year-to-date, a significant rise from 13 % in 2022 .
This progress underscores the strength of Sotheby’s and Napa Valley Vintners' shared vision to enhance the region's global prominence while directly supporting critical local initiatives. With this renewed commitment through 2027, both organizations seek to build upon these achievements and leave a legacy of impact.
During this time, Sotheby’s has powered Napa Valley Vintners and Collective Napa Valley’s year - round charity auctions, creating new opportunities for wine consumers, collectors and connoisseurs around the globe to discover more of Napa Valley’s celebrated wines, as well as the region’s renowned collaborative community.
Looking ahead to 2025, Sotheby’s and Napa Valley Vintners announced several key auctions that will continue to highlight the best of Napa Valley wines and raise critical funds for local initiatives.
Premiere Napa Valley – February 22, 2025
This prestigious event will offer wine trade members the opportunity to bid on rare, one-of-a-kind wines made exclusively for the auction. Bidders will be able to participate in person or online, with proceeds supporting the Napa Valley Vintners' ongoing work.
Auction Napa Valley – June 6 -7 , 2025
Auction Napa Valley returns with its Barrel Auction on Friday and the highly anticipated live auction on Saturday. While many participants will enjoy the world - class hospitality and celebration in Napa Valley, anyone, anywhere in the world, can join the auction experience through Sotheby’s online bidding. Auction Napa Valley is one of the premier wine charity events globally, benefiting local community programs and organizations in Napa County.
In June 2022, Sotheby’s brought NVV’s innovative style of bidding to its online audience for the Napa Valley Barrel Auction. The bidding format allows for an exciting, gamified experience for bidders: to secure a place on the leaderboard, bidders need to place a higher bid than the top price on the leaderboard. Bidders can view the leaderboard of the top ten bids for each lot, with the top ten bids winning the lot at varying increments.
As the leading wine -producing region in the United States, Napa Valley represents just 4 % of California’s grape harvest but accounts for an astounding 30 % of the state’s wine value. With 95% of Napa’s wineries being family-owned and many producing fewer than 5 ,000 cases annually, Napa wines are highly sought after for their quality and rarity.
