Frieze Art Fair Opens in London |

LONDON, ENGLAND.- Frieze Art Fair takes place from October 12-15, 2006. 140 of the worlds most vital contemporary art galleries will be representing over 1000 of the most compelling artists working today, at the fourth Frieze Art Fair sponsored by Deutsche Bank. The participating galleries were chosen following a rigorous selection process. The resulting list represents an international spread from Russia to Lebanon and Japan to Brazil. It includes 33 galleries from the UK; 31 from USA; 23 from Germany; 9 from Italy, & from Austria; France and Switzerland; 4 from The Netherlands; 3 from Denmark and Japan; 2 from Belgium, Brazil and Spain; and 1 each from Greece, Ireland, Israel, Lebanon, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia and Sweden. 13 galleries will be participating for the first time at the fair, including Konrad Fischer Galerie, Düsseldorf; Friedrich Petzel Gallery, New York; Anderson_s contemporary, Copenhagen and Dicksmith, London. The Fair is also pleased to welcome back ACME., Los Angeles; Contemporary Fine Arts, Berlin, Christian Nagel, Cologne, Rivington Arms, New York and The Breeder, Athens.
Fair directors Matthew Slotover and Amanda Sharp comment With a record number of applicants, the selection process was more competitive than ever before. The gallery list represents the most contemporary selection of galleries of any international fair. It means that Frieze Art Fair will continue to provide a site for discovery, living up to its reputation as the most vibrant art fair today. We are looking forward to continuing our productive collaborations with our main sponsor Deutsche Bank, associate sponsor Cartier and media sponsor the Guardian - each one has a long standing commitment to contemporary art.
Frieze Art Fair 2006 will bring the fairs primary audience of international collectors and curators the most exciting new work from around the world. The fair organisers received over 450 applications for places at Frieze Art Fair 2006. Frieze Art Fair also presents the highly respected curatorial programme, Frieze Projects. Frieze Projects comprises critically acclaimed Frieze Commissions, the prestigious Frieze Talks, and a new award for artists, The Cartier Award, all in association with Cartier. Past Frieze Projects have seen artists such as Jeremy Deller, Roman Ondák and Paola Pivi produce site-specific work which garnered both public attention and critical acclaim. The fair takes place at Regents Park, London.
