MEADVILLE, PA.- The Allegheny College Bowman Gallery will feature three concurent exhibits on painting, ceramics and prints to show Asian Art and influences, Nov. 7 to Dec. 6, 2006 with an opening reception on Nov. 7 (Tues) 7:00p-9:00p including a slide lecture by Dr. Diane Shafer Graham, the curator of paintings and prints at 7:00p. "Educated Brush" presents three artists: Arnold Chang, Dr. Alice W. Chen, and Ruby Wang. Dr. Alice Chen of Rochester, NY who created "Pleasure in a Pond" is on the faculty of Creative Workshop, Memorial Art Gallery, the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY. Chen likes to immerse herself in the magic of nature and life, and to transmit her profound joy of discovery through art with a sprinkle of sunshine. Her fascination in painting and calligraphy is captured in flowers and birds, motives from nature, and landscape, in traditional or abstract rendition. Arnold Chang, a traditional Chinese landscape artist on scrolls, is a renowned artist world-wide at Kaikodo Gallery in New York City. Ruby Wang of Torence, CA expresses her talent in abstract on rice paper. An international known artist, she has taught in art at college for many years. We would like to congratulate her in joining the faculty of the Dept. of Art, at Southern Yangtze Univ. in Wuxi, China. "Asian Influences in Contemporary Ceramics" features five artists: Beth Lo, Missoula, MT; Yih-Wen Luo, Dekalb, IL; Sadashi Inuzuka, Ann Arbor, MI; Scott Rench. Chicago, IL; and Chuck Johnson, Venango, PA. Japanese prints highlight woodcuts of 18th to early 20th century. Dr. Diane Shafter Graham, a gifted curator and a professor in art history at Allegheny College, was also instrumental in two previous successful joint shows by Arnold Chang and Dr. Alice W. Chen at Nazareth College, Rochester, NY and Geneseo College, Geneseo, NY. Bowman, Penelec and Megahan are three galleries in Doane Hall, Dept. of Art, Allegheny College, 520 North Main St. Meadville, PA 16335-3902.
