Illibro dei Nomi Significati
Illibro dei Nomi Significati. Work by Filippo Biagioli. Library of the Department of Prints and Drawings, Uffizi Museum. Florence, Italy. Ph. Filippo Basetti

by Bianca Di Cecio

FLORENCE.- Illibro dei Nomi Significati is a ritual Jewish book made by the Italian Artist Filippo Biagioli. It is currently situated in the Library of the Department of Prints and Drawings in the Uffizi Museum in Florence, Italy. The work was completed in February 2019 and it was made following the Will of God that was written in the Torah for the creation of the Ark of the Covenant. The Artist was able to produce the book after years of ancient and spiritual research.

The tome measures 36,5x28x6,5 cm (14,4x11x2,6 in) and is made of fine materials and white sheets of paper. In between the lines there are 26 mm (ca 1 in) and every 6 written pages there is a white page to respect God’s day of rest during Creation. The Artist followed the Will of God, including giving this book a particular fragrance. The book’s cover is made out of acacia wood and on the front of it there is the snake Saraf made out of copper. This snake is said to have cured the community of Israel. Inside this manuscript, the Artist tried to analyze the names of Pentateuch’s protagonists and their meanings. Since Biagioli studies esotericism, he really loves doctrine’s teachings on how God created the world through His Word. Today there are many methods to master and to “feel” words that are used in everyday occasions. The Artist enjoys searching for the deep meanings of every word. By reading the Torah it might be evident that there are some names that are somehow vibrant, bright. They might be able to bring the reader into that World. This also happens with the Koran. While reading It, the reader might feel like being in front of Allah the Merciful. This is the reason why writing this book was so spontaneous for Biagioli. The Artist, inside the book, provided a graphic map to better understand the symbols and the writings that he used. At the beginning of every page there is the Sacred Name to whom the page is dedicated. Underneath, there is the numerical string that belongs to the Name. In the middle of the page there is the Name’s Motto which encloses the scenic depiction of the episode in which the character is presented inside the Torah.

Symbolisms inside Illibro dei Nomi Significati:

• The copper snake: the snake, named Saraf, stands for recovery and wisdom. In the Bible, the copper snake used to heal people who had been bitten by poisonous snakes.

• The symbols of the 12 tribes of Israel: they are symbols which are represented in the mosaic of a synagogue in Jerusalem.

• The sacred geometry: the geometry used in this book is connected to the principles of the sacred geometry. This type of geometry is present in every great spiritual tradition.

• The acacia wood: this wood represents immortality and the connection with nature• The colors: gold, white, black and red. These are the typical colors used by the Artist in his works. Gold symbolizes divinity, white is purity, black is matter and red is passion. The book, thanks to the analysis of the Sacred Names, allows the reader to uncover mysteries. Every name, according to the cabalistic tradition, owns power and deep meanings. Illibro dei Nomi Significati exhorts to discover and to meditate on the deepest meanings of reality.
