Desiree Dolron, XTERIORS VIII, 2001-2005.
|
PARIS, FRANCE.- Institut Néerlandais presents Desiree Dolron. Exaltation, Gaze, Xteriors, on view 9 November - 20 December, 2006. Born in 1963, Desiree Dolron is one of the best-known Dutch artists working with photography today, and has developed a unique style in both documentary and artistic work. Her series "Exaltation: Images of Religion and Death" (1991-1999) deals with excess in religious ceremonies, from exaltation to self-mutilation. "Gaze" (1996-1998) involves images of people underwater, peaceful portraits that seem to be of another, almost mythological world, blurring the boundaries between life and death. "XTERIORS" (2001-2006) presents portraits and situations inspired by the traditions of painting. There is something mysteriously, even disturbingly distant about Desiree Dolron's photographs. Curator : Marieke Wiegel. Catalogue published by Xavier Barral.
