Fifth Art20 Art Fair Opens in New York |

NEW YORK.- Art20, in its 5th year, has already become one the most celebrated fairs specializing in 20th century classics, modern masters, and cutting-edge contemporary art. A sampling of dealers includes Babcock Galleries, Forum Gallery, Bernard Goldberg Fine Arts, James Goodman Gallery, Hackett-Freedman Gallery, Gallery Henoch, Galleria Antonia Jannone, Jonathan Novak Contemporary Art, and Whitford Fine Art. For the first time, this year the preview gala will benefit Planned Parenthood of New York City and Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
New exhibitors include ACME Fine Art, Chiaroscuro Contemporary Art, Stephen Haller Gallery, Kraushaar Galleries, Francis M. Naumann Fine Art, OPUS NOW !, and Owen Gallery.
Art20 is produced and managed by Sanford L. Smith & Associates. Of the fair, Sanford Smith noted, Art20 is a vibrant and exciting look into the 20th century. There is a nice balance of traditional work exhibited by prominent dealers as well a number of younger galleries showing engaging contemporary art.
Highlights of Art20 include:
Francis M. Naumann Fine Art (New York) specializing in the Dada and Surrealist periods, will present Marcel Duchamps L.H.O.O.Q., 1920. The piece was recently featured in DADA, the exhibition that began at the Pompidou in Paris, continued at the National Gallery in Washington, DC, and concluded at MoMA in September.
Jack Rutberg Fine Arts (Los Angeles) will present two of the finest Emil Nolde (1867-1956) watercolors to see the market in decades. Acquired directly from Nolde, these works are presented publicly for the first time.
Hackett-Freedman Gallery (San Francisco) is mounting a solo exhibition of work by Manuel Neri, one of the premier figurative sculptors working today and the recipient of the 2006 Lifetime Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture award from the International Sculpture Center (Mr. Neri is being presented with the award on Wednesday, November 1 in New York City). The booth also will feature prime examples of Neris acclaimed paintings on canvas and paper.
OPUS NOW ! (New York) debuting at Art20, will be showing important contemporary prints by Kenny Scharf, Julian Schnabel (4), Malcolm Morley, Donald Baechler, Donald Sultan, James Rosenquist, Claus Oldenburg, April Gornick, John Baldessari and Jackie Battenfield. Galerie Hafenrichter & Fluegel (Nuremberg, Germany) specializes in Pop art, Contemporary art, Andy Warhol, Julien Opie, and Tom Wesselmann. A featured piece is Tom Wesselmanns Maquette for Fat Nude, 1992.
Other notable pieces coming to Art20 are: Romare Beardens Rhythm Ensemble, collage and watercolor, 1987 at ACA Galleries (New York); Working Model for Mother and Child: Hood, a bronze sculpture by Henry Moore from 1982 at Evelyn Aimis Fine Art (Miami); Bridget Rileys Through, an oil on canvas from 1988 at Archeus/Austin Desmond (London); Balcomb Greenes X2, oil on masonite, 1938 at Valerie Carberry Gallery (Chicago); Galerie Boulakia (Paris) will bring Marc Chagalls La Fuite à Sils, gouache on paper, 1952-60; Sandro Manzo Il Gabbiano (Rome and New York) specializing in contemporary European and American art, will bring Mel Bochners Random Numbers #16,an oil on canvas from 2002; Jonathan Novak Contemporary Art (Los Angeles) will present The Marriage of Linen and Sand, a mixed media work by Jim Dine, 2006; Helen Lundebergs Swimmer, acrylic on canvas, 1968 at Louis Stern Fine Arts (New York); and Georges Valmiers Nature Morte Devant une Fenetre, oil on canvas, 1922 at Whitford Fine Art (London).
