The May 15th exhibition will also include an Homage to: Vincent Willem van Gogh (1853-1890) entitled “Vincent’s Provence.”

AVERILL PARK, NY.- Renowned contemporary realist painter Jenness Cortez will present a live and interactive exhibition of her recent work on Zoom, Thursday evening May 15th from 7:30-8:30pm ET. Interested collectors can register to attend this private exhibition by registering at the Cortez website homepage at JennessCortez.com.

Jenness Cortez is a distinguished figure in the contemporary revival of realist painting. She was born in Indiana and studied at the Herron School of Art and later at the Art Students League with Arnold Blanch. At the beginning of the 21st century, Cortez began portraying "art in art"––her personal “Homage to the Creative Spirit” paintings which feature great works of masters of centuries past.

At her May 15th exhibition, Cortez will discuss 15 of her homage paintings including, “Warhol’s Pop.” In this work, Cortez rendered seven of Andy Warhol’s silkscreen prints, including: Elvis Presley, 1963; Sitting Bull, 1986; Muhammad Ali, 1978; General Custer, 1986; Queen Elizabeth II, 1985; and the publicity photo of Marilyn Monroe, for promotion of the 1953 film, “Niagara.” This photo image was later used to create Warhol’s famous 1967 “Marilyn” series. The photograph of Warhol is by Greg Gorman, 1983. The numerous book spines all reflect aspects of the Warhol pop era.

The May 15th exhibition will also include an Homage to: Vincent Willem van Gogh (1853-1890) entitled “Vincent’s Provence.” In this painting, Cortez has chosen to include “Starry Night” (1889), from the Museum of Modern Art, New York, New York, and Van Gogh’s “Self-Portrait” (1889), from the collection of the Musée d’Orsay, Paris.

Jenness Cortez has been exhibiting her work since 1975 and has had more than 40 solo shows throughout the United States. Her work is in numerous public and private collections, including those of the late-President Ronald Reagan, President Bill Clinton, HM Queen Elizabeth II, New York Governors George Pataki and Hugh Carey, the New York State Museum, Skidmore College, Polk Museum at Florida Southern College and SUNY Empire State College.
