Terra Museum Raffles Art To Benefit Education

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.- Terra Museum of American Art is proud to team up with Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education to raffle off an autographed copy of Michael Crichton's Jasper Johns in conjunction with the exhibition Jasper Johns: Prints from Four Decades currently on view through April 26, 2002.

Terra Museum of American Art is set to raffle off a remarkable book that pairs two major talents of our time- the painter, sculptor, printmaker Jasper Johns and the physician, novelist, filmmaker Michael Crichton. Crichton, who has known Johns and collected his work for more than twenty years, offers a dazzling succession of intimate glimpses of Johns' potent and seemingly contradictory aspects.  Since it first appeared in 1977, Crichton's Jasper Johns has been considered the preeminent study of one of America's foremost living artists.

A more in-depth look at John's work is on display at Terra Museum of American Art.  The exhibition Jasper Johns: Prints from Four Decades comprises works dating from 1960 to 2000 that demonstrate the range of print processes this renowned American artist has explored, including lithography, intaglio, screenprint, relief, monotype, and related lead relief sculpture. Familiar images of targets, maps, flags, ale cans, and body details, interpreted in prints by Johns are among the approximately 60 works in the exhibition organized by the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.

All proceeds from the Jasper Johns raffle will benefit Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education.  Founded in 1993, Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education serves students by advancing the role of the arts in kindergarten through high school public education.  It supports school improvement through the creation of partnerships between arts and community organizations that integrate the arts into the overall educational program of Chicago public schools. Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education assists over 20,000 Chicago public school students by providing vital support to artists and teachers working together to develop, implement and document arts integrated curriculum.

"We are delighted that Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education has recognized and pursued long-term associations with schools and arts organizations," said Elizabeth Glassman, Director of Terra Museum of American Art.  "This partnership created for the Jasper Johns raffle is a perfect example of how we can join together to benefit arts education for Chicago public school students.  We salute them for their commitment to expanding educational opportunities for the arts."

Raffle tickets for Crichton's autographed copy of Jasper Johns are available for purchase at Terra Museum of American Art now through the conclusion of Jasper Johns: Prints from Four Decades for $1 each with all proceeds benefiting Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education. All art connoisseurs and literary aficionados are invited to enter to win.  The raffle drawing and check presentation will be held on April 26, 2002.
