OSLO.- Do you want to lead and help develop Norway’s most extensive collection of art, architecture and design? The National Museum is one of the largest cultural institutions in Northern Europe. The museum’s mandate is to develop, conserve, research, make available and promote public knowledge about Norway’s most extensive collection of art, architecture and design.

Following the successful opening of the new National Museum, one of our main points of focus going forward will be to consolidate the museum’s core activities. We are looking for a director to lead the work of enhancing and further developing the museum’s work in the field of art.

As director of the Department of Exhibitions and Collections, you will have responsibility for the museum’s extensive art collection and its further development. You will lead a broad and strong team of qualified specialists and will play a central role in ensuring successful collaborations between departments and specialisations both within the museum and with external partners. The department is evolving, and you will contribute significantly to forthcoming developments on the professional and organisational levels within the department and its three sections: the Library and Archives Section, the Art Section, and the Section for Architecture, Crafts and Design. The latter two sections are newly established and respective directors will be appointed following the appointment of the new director for Exhibitions and Collection.

We are looking for a confident and strategically competent director with the ability to think holistically, to define the direction of development, and to ensure implementation in accordance with the National Museum’s goals and strategy. In addition, you will possess good interpersonal skills and an ability to get the best out of those around you. You will have solid leadership experience, preferably with experience of being in charge of other leaders.

You will have higher education qualifications in art history, architecture and/or related fields. Research expertise will be an advantage, but relevant experience and/or other qualifications may compensate for this. You will be fluent in a Scandinavian language and English at a professional level. Character suitability is also a priority.

If you have any questions about the position, please contact Visindi via Mona Wille mona.wille@visindi.no or Marianne Bakken marianne.bakken@visindi.no Your application with CV should be sent as soon as possible and no later than June 10 to Visindi via Mona Wille mona.wille@visindi.no or Marianne Bakken marianne.bakken@visindi.no

All enquiries will be treated confidentially, also, during the initial phase and if requested, with respect to the prospective employer. The National Museum is covered by the provisions of Norway’s Freedom of Information Act, which grants the public right to access applicant lists. Applicants must justify any request for an exception to this provision. If an exception is not granted, the applicant will be notified and offered the option to withdraw their application.
