How Does Your Canine Friend Benefit from CBD Oil? A Handy Guide

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a natural hemp plant extract that attaches itself to the endocannabinoid system’s receptors in human and animal bodies, relieving pain and anxiety. Reputable brands offer full-spectrum CBD products, which contain a mix of terpenes and cannabinoids. Should you give CBD to your dog? According to studies, transmitters and receptors in the endocannabinoid system regulate various physical functions in dogs. When CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system, particularly through the CB1 receptors, it affects the dog's nervous system and the brain. The interaction between CB2 receptors and CBD helps support your pet's immune system and peripheral organs. As a result, a dog's appetite, mood, pain tolerance, and immune response can improve. At the same time, CBD solutions can enhance the production of cannabinoids in your canine friend’s body. It can strengthen your pet’s balance and overall health.

However, finding the right CBD product is crucial. You can check Earth Buddy CBD Oil for an idea. Carefully and thoughtfully formulated, high-quality CBD oils can contribute to your dog’s wellness in a safe and hassle-free way.

Health benefits of CBD oil for dogs
Today, humans already use CBD oil for chronic pain relief, anxiety, insomnia, epilepsy, and other health concerns. Some studies also show its effectiveness in reducing inflammation. Many people who use opioids for chronic pain turn to CBD oil to help reduce their dependence on painkillers. Even cancer patients are now being recommended CBD products. Interestingly, the potential health benefits of CBD are also being extended to dogs today.

Seizure management
The College of Veterinary Medicine at Colorado State University found that 89% of dogs with seizure disorders showed improvement. The survey was conducted on nine dogs undergoing treatment and seven dogs belonging to the placebo group. Although it was a small study, the university is likely planning a larger-scale study on the effects of CBD in dogs with seizures.

Arthritis
Pet parents reported improvements in their dogs' appetite, sleep, and gait after using hemp oil. The College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University conducted a masked clinical trial investigating the benefits of CBD oil for dogs, where neither the pet owners nor the researchers were aware of the dogs' treatment process. It increases the credibility of the scientific study and its results. A study was conducted on approximately 22 dogs with arthritis. Of these, 16 dogs completed the trial. They were given CBD oil and then a mix of olive oil, peppermint oil, and anise that smelled like CBD oil, each for one month. The dogs underwent a two-week washout period between the two treatments. Dogs’ health was examined based on biochemical and CBC profiles, physical tests, and owner questionnaires, among other factors. Throughout the entire observation period, dogs received their regular medications and diets. Only analgesic medicines were stopped two weeks before the trial period.

It is believed that certain supplements and medications tend to interact with each other and increase the risk of side effects. Hence, those medications were excluded. According to the study, CBD oil improved arthritis symptoms in the canines compared to those on placebo oil that mimicked the scent of CBD oil. It was also found that CBD oil worked well with anti-inflammatory medications and joint relief products.

Atopy
A foreign-based animal health company also did a masked clinical trial on canines suffering from an allergic skin condition called atopic dermatitis, which leads to hair loss, overall discomfort, skin inflammation, and itchy paws. The study found that CBD treatment helped relieve their itching symptoms by nearly 50%. Many dogs got rid of the itching.

Neurological health
Dogs showing signs of neurological imbalance and cognitive decline can also benefit from CBD treatments. It can improve their brain and nerve functions.

Cellular vitality
Oxidative stress can affect your dog's natural defense system and cellular health. CBD oil’s antioxidant and cannabinoid properties can help alleviate these symptoms.

Using CBD oil for dogs
While CBD therapies are helpful, they work well when you administer the right amount of oil at the proper frequency. How you apply it also matters. Some pet parents apply full-spectrum CBD oil to the dogs' gums for quicker absorption into the bloodstream through the mucosal membrane. Others mix oil in the dog’s food. When CBD oil is administered with food, absorption takes longer, and the effects may be delayed. As a result, it can become a more costly treatment. The reason for the delayed results can be attributed to the fact that the oil must travel through the entire digestive system and filtration process before reaching the targeted areas.

The third option is gently rubbing the oil on the soft inner ear flap. It should be applied to the pinna, the area that remains hairless. This method arguably results in the slowest absorption of the oil into the bloodstream. How do you decide on the application method? You can read the product details and usage instructions for an idea. You will also get an idea about the dosage. CBD products are available in various strengths for both large and small dogs. You must choose according to the size of your dog. For example, if you have a large pet, you should choose CBD oil specifically designed for large breeds. Otherwise, the dosage calculation may go wrong, rendering all your efforts useless.

Some brands provide clear instructions to eliminate confusion. For example, if you buy a 1000mg CBD Oil for your pet dog. It's for a large breed. You can check their usage directions. Generally, they recommend applying .25ml oil per 20 pounds of body weight before increasing the dose. They mention that giving a small amount of oil is safer and more effective. With regular use, you can notice improvement in your dog’s stress levels.

Nevertheless, you should consider purchasing CBD oil for your dog after evaluating your lifestyle and your dog's specific needs. These therapies will become an integral part of your daily routine. Please thoroughly check the quality of the product. A brand that is transparent about its product details and specifies the doses per body weight can be easily trusted. You can look at customer ratings and reviews of the oil for more clarity. See if their feedback aligns with the company's claims. It can further boost your confidence in your choice.
