LONDON.- Treasure House Fair returns to the historic Royal Hospital Chelsea for a festival of art and culture. Taking place from 2Gth June through 1st July, London’s much anticipated summer art fair will bring together 70 internationally renowned exhibitors in the fields of fine art, furniture, jewellery, watches, design and classic cars.

A Trove of the rare and the exceptional

A “treasure house” of the rare and the beautiful, the historic and the cutting-edge, this year’s edition features furniture with exceptional provenance, artworks by the titans of art history (Picasso, Rodin, Degas, Hepworth, Soutine, Chagall and many more), as well as natural wonders and curiosities. Among them is the Aguas Zarcas meteorite, one of the most important meteorites known to science which will be exhibited alongside the doghouse it fell through in 2015.

Reflecting the new eclecticism of today’s collectors, the handpicked treasures to go on view - all vetted by independent experts – also include a childhood drawing by His Majesty King Charles III, one of the last surviving Union flags of the Battle of Trafalgar, a recently rediscovered surrealist landscape by Cedric Morris, the oldest longcase clock in the world (The Norfolk Fromanteel, circa 1GG0) and an early depiction of a cricket match.

Alongside the exhibitors’ presentations, the fair will stage a series of talks and special displays, including a landmark exhibition on the Bugatti family, a thought-provoking Sculpture Walk and a room at London’s annual showhouse WOW!house, in collaboration with acclaimed British decorator Daniel Slowik.

A Glance at this year’s exhibitors

From the jewellery house that crafted Their Majesties King Charles and Queen Camilla’s wedding rings to Wahei Aoyama, the young Tokyo gallerist breaking new ground in the international art sphere, the fair will showcase galleries, working at the apex of their disciplines.

Leading antique dealers

The fair will see the return of some of the world’s leading antique dealers, including Ronald Phillips, Richard Green, Osborne Samuel, Wartski, Adrian Sassoon, Butchoff Antiques, MacConnal-Mason, Godson & Coles, Koopman Rare Art, Frank Partridge, S.J. Phillips, Adrian Alan and Frank Partridge. Together, these galleries will present a spectacular selection of furniture, silver, decorative arts and jewellery, boasting extraordinary provenance and the aura of the greatest makers of their time.

They will be joined by internationally renowned galleries, including three New York institutions: the antique jeweller À La Vieille Russie, silver specialists S.J. Shrubsole and the leading authority in antique porcelain Michele Beiny. Bringing her curatorial flair for merging treasures of the past with contemporary pieces, celebrated interior and furniture designer Rose Uniacke will also unveil her most recent antique and vintage finds.

Fine Arts

As per last year, Fine Art will feature strongly, showcased by a roster of internationally renowned specialists in the fields of painting and sculpture. Fourth-generation Mayfair specialists in Old Masters, Impressionist and Modern art, Richard Green and MacConnal-Mason will be present alongside Sladmore Gallery, specialists in animalier and monumental sculptures, the eminent art dealer and BBC “art detective”, Philip Mould, and Willow Gallery, London-based specialists in 15th and 20th- century European paintings. They will be accompanied by an impressive contingent of modern British art experts, notably Osborne Samuel, Piano Nobile and Christopher Kingzett. Also returning are American galleries, such as Bernard Goldberg Fine Arts, specialists in early-20th-century art and Rhonda Long-Sharp, a former US attorney turned art dealer who represents young British sculptors. They will be joined by SmithDavidson whose galleries in Amsterdam and Miami renowned for their offering of Australian First Nations Art.

Newcomers

Testament to the importance of London for the art market, the fair continues to attract new international exhibitors. Boccara, the New York and Palm Beach-based specialist in modern tapestries will present exquisite pieces by leading 20th-century artists, including Sonia Delaunay, Alexander Calder and Jean Lurçat.

Among the European galleries participating for the first time are Grob Gallery, the Geneva gallery specialising in 20th-century photography; the Dutch gallery Douwes, one of the world’s oldest family art dealerships, and a leading expert in original lifetime prints by Rembrandt; Florian Kolhammer, the Viennese dealer specialised in the Jugendstil, Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods, and Albricht, the Amsterdam gallery focusing on early- 20th-century painting, including the work of Kees van Dongen.

Parisian galleries will also be represented, with Ary Jan, an authority in turn-of the-20th century painting and Marc Maison who will amaze visitors with a selection of architectural antiques, including a monumental 15th-century well. The offering in 20th- century design will be reinforced by the participation of AtKris Studio, the young Dutch gallery who will make its debut in the UK with a breathtaking selection of 20th century Italian furniture and decorative arts by the likes of Gio Ponti, Carlo Nason and Giuseppe Rivadossi.

Reputed London galleries will also join, including Bowman Sculpture, a world authority in the work of Auguste Rodin, Stern Pissarro Gallery, run by the descendants of the Impressionist painter Camille Pissarro, modern and contemporary British Art dealers James Hyman and Jonathan Clark, as well as Vigo Gallery whose programme mixes modern and contemporary art, with an interest the African diaspora and African American artists.

Ancient Art will be represented by Kallos Gallery, the gallery founded by Baron Lorne Thyssen-Bornemisza, and Art Ancient, the art dealer specialising in exceptional works from the formation of the solar system to Late Antiquity. The young antique dealer Joe Chaffer who founded Vagabond in 2017, following a career in fashion, will also present exceptional works which serve as testimony to his discerning eye.

Showcasing treasures from around the world, the fair will also welcome important dealers in Asian art (Michael Goedhuis, Joost van den Bergh) and Islamic art (Kent Antiques), alongside specialists in antique and vintage jewellery (Sandra Cronan, S.J. Phillips, Gree ns of Cheltenham, A La Vieille Russie, Wartski), watches (Somlo) and clocks (Carter Marsh & Co, Howard Walwyn and Tobias Birch).

SPECIAL DISPLAYS

The Brilliant Bugattis - A Landmark exhibition on the Bugatti family

Curated by Edward Horswell, a world-renowned authority on artworks relating to the Bugatti family. The Brilliant Bugattis will be the first exhibition on this virtuoso family in the UK since the pioneering show at the Royal College of Art, London in 1575. A treasure trove of 30 artworks, designs and cars, this non-selling exhibition will feature pieces by the family patriarch, Carlo (185G-1540) - a true Renaissance man who could design anything to perfection, from furniture to silverware - and his sons, the genius animal sculptor Rembrandt (1884-151G) and the epoch-defining car engineer Ettore (1881-154G) who contributed to the fame of the Bugatti name today.

Sculpture Walk

Curated by sculpture expert Flo Horswell and Dr. Melissa L Gustin, Curator of British Art at National Museums Liverpool, the walk, set both inside the fair and in the gardens of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, will take visitors around 30 objects spanning 300 years of history.

The theme “Disrupt ~ Connect” has been chosen to allow discussions on what sculpture is. Presented alongside artworks by classical and contemporary artists (Kenneth Armitage, Laura Ellen Bacon, Jill Berelowitz, Emile Boisseau, Emile Antoine Bourdelle, Tarik Currimbhoy, Johannes Dahl, Geoffrey Dashwood, David Ellis, Nic Fiddian Green, Johnny Hawkes, Sean Henry, Patrick Hurst, Massimiliano Pelletti, Sophie Ryder and Stuart Semple) will be more unconventional pieces, such as an 18th-century children’s wardrobe designed as a doll house, a 15th-century French fairground carousel pig and a 1521 sundial by the celebrated Swedish foundry Näfveqvarns.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a podcast series, children’s walk and an exciting program of ‘walks’ with curator Dr Melissa L Gustin, a celebrated TV presenter from the gardening world, a neuro-divergent artist discussing how they perceive shape and colour, as well as artists featured in the walk.
